A tutor should build understanding, confidence, and consistency. Beyond improving grades, it's important to help students develop good study habits, ask questions without hesitation, and feel supported in their learning journey. My strengths are clear communication, patience, and adaptability. I am good at explaining concepts simply and adjusting…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to create a supportive environment, encourage curiosity, and build the student’s confidence in their own abilities. A tutor should not just provide answers, but also guide the student in developing problem-solving skills and independent thinking, so they can succeed beyond the tutoring…

What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a healthy and suitable learning environment. One that motivates students to learn and to be able to confidently apply the knowledge they are taught both in and outside the classroom. Also since students are more likely to do better when they feel encouraged and…

A tutor is a guide who would be able to give personal learning experience to students which they might not be able to get during a school class. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to imagine herself in the shoes of student and then make learning process easier. Gaining the student's trust and then making student feel…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand said student, and adjust their methods accordingly. What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build a relationship with them. Listening to a student, assessing what areas they struggle with most, and celebrating the accomplishments they have made in their studies (whether big or small), is key in strengthening the student's trust in the tutor. In turn, this…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being prepared. I have had 1-1 Spanish tutoring in the past, and every week my tutor would arrive prepared with documents and interactive lessons, which were fundamental in enriching my learning of the subject and making the sessions more enjoyable. Additionally, the tutor needs to maintain…

I think the most important thing as a tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more…

There are few important things a tutor can do their students: -Transfer their extensive knowledge onto their students so they can solve their academic problems. - Be patient and calm, even if they have to repeat something 100 times, they have to make sure that the student is clear about the problem. -Build relationships so that student…

The most important things a tutor can do is provide a support network and assistance for the students both in and outside of academics. While obviously a tutor is paid to help a student improve their grades or help them study, a tutor that is able to give a student an actual interest in the subject matter is one of the best things a tutor can do. Giving a student an interest in the subject will make them improve their grades even by thereself as they will enjoy studying and seek…

A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

Inside GlebeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Chloe focused on solving algebraic equations by finding the value of x and practiced simplifying expressions, as well as working through percentage problems such as increasing or decreasing values and calculating GST.

In Year 9, Liam worked on ratios and rates with practical examples and was introduced to basic factorisation skills.

For a younger learner in Year 5, Emma strengthened her understanding of area calculations alongside strategies for division using visual models.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student missed a scheduled Zoom lesson, meaning they lost out on targeted feedback just before a key trigonometry assessment.

For one Year 11, "notes were disorganised and it was difficult to find the formulas for cosine rule when revising," which slowed down practice and led to confusion in test conditions.

In Year 8, errors in homework weren't reviewed, so similar mistakes kept appearing with ratios and percentages.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner's times tables practice focused only on familiar numbers—new patterns were avoided if they felt uncertain or slow, causing hesitation when solving multi-step word problems under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Glebe tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to show working now carefully explains each algebraic step aloud, especially when evaluating tricky fractions.

Another high schooler began the term making frequent errors with quadratic equations but recently completed an entire worksheet without needing hints—self-correcting two mistakes along the way.

For a younger learner in Year 4, times tables had been a real challenge, yet last session he jumped straight into practice questions and got nearly all of them right without prompting or counting on fingers.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St James Catholic Primary School.
