The way I make the lesson engaging, enjoyable, and student-specific. Lessons are catered to based on their skills, needs, and learning style. Positive impacts must be…

I feel a tutor must be able to invoke a sense of interest and joy in a students minds for the subject they teach. As a tutor, you are someone who has studied the subject beforehand and are more knowledgeable about the subject than a student who is just starting out. This makes it difficult for tutors to reach their maximum potential while teaching…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. Students already have bounds of pressure heaped on them, academic, parental, administrative, personal, etc. and sometimes all it takes is one Calculus question to bring them to their wit's end. A tutor must support their students throughout their learning journey and…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to identify their strengths and areas of improvement in particular to improve the student's overall performance in a particular subject area. Thus, I believe it is really important to enable the student to feel empowered about their learning through support and encouragement. This…

My main focus is to not just explain the content in a way they really understand the principles behind it and it would not just be memorising the content on the student's part. I also believe that connecting with the student can help the teaching learning process a lot. I am a very understanding person in general. So I am most of the time capable…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is pose as their mentor than just a teacher. By doing this, a student will feel safe, and empowered; this in turn will make them learn better. Moreover, it is important for a tutor to build their confidence. It is essential to build on the weak areas of a student. Additionally, a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put in time. They need to act as if it's not just a job which pays. Prepping lessons early, helping with questions outside of tutoring time, marking tests. All of these examples show a great tutor. - I put a lot of care into my work. - I love seeing others thrive through my help. - I…

To reassure them that having a tutor and needing a bit of extra help is nothing to be ashamed of. Moreover than learning the tasks, helping them feel they're capable of more than they think they are. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. I think the most important thing is making the student feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should focus on understanding where the student is getting stuck and help them build confidence, not just give answers. I'm patient and I don't rush students. If something doesn't click the first time, I'm happy to explain it again in a different way.…

I think a tutor should be able to tell if their student understands something or not, often they don't say it outright and asking them directly might not get them to admit it. So by asking them to solve a question that indirectly uses the concept might help us figure out if they're having trouble or not. Students should also feel comfortable with…

I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. I believe that a tutor should be able to build relationships with a student where the students are provided with an environment where they are heard and observed. I think this allows tutors to strategize methods in helping students progress, learn and succeed. This must be done with patience, constant assessment of student's progress, and…

According to me, the most important thing as a tutor is to try and try until the student understands, although it takes a lot of patience and time. It is also important to explore the student's best way of learning, which may include audio, visual, or kinesthetic, and make efforts to teach them accordingly. As a tutor, I first make my students…

The most important thing I believe a tutor can do for the students is to understand and listen to them and their needs. In addition, it allows…

Inside Glen OsmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Lucy worked on reviewing index laws and practiced converting fractional indices to surds, as well as multiplying and dividing fractions.

In Year 10, Maja focused on linear relations by exploring the equation y = mx + c, finding gradients and intercepts, and then moved onto graphing these functions.

For Year 11 Chemistry and Maths, Divyanshu tackled naming organic compounds with carboxyl, carbonyl, and hydroxyl groups in chemistry, while in maths he learned how to derive e^x and e^f(x) using differentiation rules.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 Chemistry student had difficulty recalling key chemical equations during test revision, especially for ocean acidification and exoskeleton formation—"memorising the specific reactions was a sticking point," noted one tutor.

In Year 11 Maths, skipping steps when differentiating under time pressure led to persistent sign errors, particularly with chain rule and kinematics problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often struggled to translate worded maths problems into equations; the first step alone felt overwhelming.

For English in Year 10, reliance on copying large slabs of quotes rather than synthesising ideas slowed essay progress and limited original analysis.

Recent Achievements

A Glen Osmond tutoring session saw a Year 12 student who had struggled to organise his chemistry answers now confidently providing concise, accurate explanations about spectroscopy and logarithmic rules without prompting.

Another tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 English student: where he once barely wrote at all, last week he completed a full-length essay independently and even scored an A on his first assignment.

In Year 6 maths, one student who used to avoid challenging problems is now attempting fraction factorisation exercises without hesitation and recently managed to factorise equations like 8x+4 on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fullarton Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seymour College.
