I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are increasing their confidence, encouraging them to take initiative in their study, and enjoy the process of learning. In my experience as a receiver of tutoring (for maths) and a teacher, I found that while explaining concepts well is extremely important, the most effective way to…

I believe that tutors need to be able to explain things to students succinctly give that students are already putting their own time out of school to catch up on what they have missed. Students who tend to be apathetic towards a subject end up performing poorly in class as they might the subject too difficult, therefore, tutors need to show…

A teacher must be able to impart knowledge to his/her students. Its not only good that a tutor should have a good command of his core area of specialty, he/she must also be able to pass the knowledge across in a way the students will comprehend. The most valuable asset I have as a tutor is my belief that every student can succeed. Each student should come in knowing that there is someone who believes they can achieve more if they have the right motivation. The most important thing a tutor can do is find the most efficient way to deliver concepts to their students. This will always change for each student, and so a good tutor has to be flexible and receptive to what works and what doesn't. The end goal really is to get them educated, and if that means fostering a strong friendly connection or simply…

I believe that a good tutor has the the ability to help students build confidence for the classroom, and inspire them to be the best that they can be. Another thing that is important to me is not belittling the student or making them feel "stupid" for not understanding, but instead relating to them and helping them find a different way to solve…

Help them to do the best they can, and to enjoy doing it. I believe that they go together, that "learning" which is not enjoyed is often, in the long run, not real learning at all, just hoop jumping. For a tutor, the most important thing is to increase the curiosity of the student, for the subject that they are learning. Exams are important. However, at the end of the day I believe, the knowledge gained through the subject matter is far more important because it is something that can help to shape the future of the student. For example,…

The best thing any Tutor can do is make a student like a particular subject which she/he used to previously dislike. This means that the Tutor has made a boring subject interesting to the students. And in this way, the student will remember what he/she learns for a lifetime and not just for the purpose of examinations. I am a very patient Tutor,…

Inside GlenroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia focused on linear equations and simultaneous equations, including tackling worded problems step-by-step.

Year 10 student Daniel practiced structuring and writing oral presentations in preparation for an upcoming assessment, using example prompts to build confidence.

For primary support, Year 4 student Emily worked through addition and subtraction with four-digit numbers as well as identifying and describing 3-D shapes, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

Incomplete homework was a recurring issue in both upper primary and high school students.

For example, one Year 7 student repeatedly left English essays unfinished despite a signed contract—this resulted in missed opportunities for feedback and impacted his spelling test performance, as "most of the spelling words are taken from his homework."

In senior years, a student preparing for public speaking assignments neglected to complete assigned drafts, leading to less confidence during oral presentations.

A Year 6 maths student's messy layout—"he struggled aligning sums, which caused mistakes"—meant extra time spent correcting basic errors instead of advancing to more complex problems.

Recent Achievements

A Glenroy tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who used to hesitate when tackling worded maths problems now confidently translates them into equations and solves them with much less prompting.

In Year 7 English, one student who previously struggled with structuring essays has begun planning their arguments independently and linking ideas between class and tutoring sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 was initially hard on himself for spelling errors but is now more accepting of mistakes during tests, showing resilience by quickly moving on and finishing all questions without dwelling on previous slip-ups.
