A successful teacher never lets a student feel like they cannot achieve their goals. The goal can be anything from solving a problem to passing the course or even their career goals. The most important quality a student needs for anything is self-confidence and teachers can help a lot by motivating students. I am very empathetic and don't mind…

I think the most important things are building the student’s confidence, and making them understand concepts rather than memorize stuff which can help them develop skills they can use in the long run. Other than helping the student achieve their personal goals, It's also important to ensure that they develop a love for learning and instill a sense of discipline and responsibility. A tutor should not only help students understand the subject matter but also build their confidence and independent learning skills. It’s important to listen carefully, identify where they’re struggling, and provide guidance that helps them think critically and solve problems on their own. Ultimately, a tutor’s role is to empower students to…

For me an initiative learning is most important. Tutor can give room to the student for intuition and develop an effective teaching pattern based on the view the student have. Few viable things which a tutor can do to help the students are: a) Deliver to them motivational thoughts and constantly encouraging them to do well. b) Critically thinking about any difficulty which might pose a hurdle in the pathway of student's learning and bring-forth ways to mitigate it. As a tutor, I believe to have the following…

Margret, Glenwood

Inside GlenwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aryan worked through fraction operations—adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions—and practised connecting percentages to decimals and fractions.

For Year 8, Alisha focused on finding the surface areas and volumes of composite solids using notes and worksheets, along with reviewing formulas for prisms.

In senior secondary, Maya (Year 11) completed HSC exam preparation by tackling varied past paper questions and clarifying major doubts in topics including trigonometry and statistics.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra sessions, a student often left working incomplete when solving equations, which made it hard to spot where misunderstandings with variables arose. As one tutor observed, "she needs to talk aloud so the tutor can know which areas need improvement."

In a senior geometry lesson (Year 11), revision focused mostly on easier past exam questions rather than tackling harder bearings and proof problems—missing a chance to build deeper confidence before assessments.

A Year 7 student avoided writing out steps for fraction addition, leading to repeated denominator errors and confusion about simplifying answers during timed practice.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Glenwood noticed a Year 10 student who previously struggled with scatter plots now drawing them accurately and sharing that he'd received high marks on his topic test.

In a senior session, another student who tended to rely heavily on the tutor's help for algebra was able to tackle multi-step questions solo after a few alternate explanations—solving harder problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, during primary tutoring, one child who rarely asked questions started pausing to clarify things mid-task instead of pushing through confused, showing real initiative. The last session ended with her confidently converting fractions both ways on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanhope Garden Library/ Dennis Johnson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caddies Creek Public School.
