The most important thing is that the student can feel safe and comfortable in the learning environment, as well as them being able to openly ask questions and not feel judged for asking questions. Another really important thing is to change my teaching method based on the student to ensure they can understand the topics and learn in a way that…

Be a pillar of support for the student, not just in studies but any worries they may have, within reason, and to be viewed closer to a friend while maintaining professional standards, to create a more positive environment. Patient, willing to learn together with the student if it is something I also don't understand and because I have cousins…

A good tutor should give to every student: 1- an understanding of the principles in the material; 2- the tools to tackle the material with confidence - typically inductive or deductive reasoning; and 3- an appreciation for the subject. As a homeschool parent I'm always learning new ways to teach STEM. Now semi-retired, I'm a mathematician…

I have always been a different learner, growing up in Bhutan, the education system is very traditional which included reading textbooks, solving problems and just mugging up answers. I always wanted to understand the subject and apply concepts and in that I feel a tutor must understand the pupil's point of view. The teaching style makes or breaks…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to make the student more confident in themselves which motivates them in their studies so they succeed. I have seen in a personal level how badly confidence can affect someone in their studies. You start doubting yourself and think you are horrible at a subject. This leads to the person to not…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be enthusiastic when teaching and understand their topic well. It will motivate students to learn and ask in-depth questions. The tutor should be clear to avoid miscommunication, flexible to different learning methods, and engaging. In addition, it is fundamental for the tutor to…

A tutor should create a supportive environment, simplify difficult concepts, and encourage independent thinking so the student becomes more confident and self-reliant. I’m patient, clear in my explanations, and good at breaking down complex topics—especially in math and science. I also adapt my teaching style to suit each student’s learning…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is give the student a complete and well-rounded understanding of the topic or question. With an incomplete understanding of the foundation of a question, gaps in knowledge can prohibit students from being able to navigate a straight forward process to find a solution. I believe my strengths would…

Inside GnangaraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Bao focused on congruence and trigonometry, including applying rules for triangles and solving angle problems using diagrams.

In Year 11, Sadie worked through basic transformations of polynomial functions and reviewed acids and combustion reactions in chemistry by completing targeted textbook exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lily practiced adding fractions with different denominators and strengthened her understanding of common factors to improve her fraction work.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on calculus repeatedly struggled to start questions, especially when derivatives linked displacement, velocity, and acceleration. She still struggles to read the questions thoroughly and this is stopping her from completing the question.

In a Year 9 algebra session, over-reliance on formula sheets meant steps were skipped before understanding why formulas worked; careless errors crept in as a result.

Meanwhile, one Year 5 learner hesitated with fractions and division due to intimidation by complex numerators and denominators—leading to avoidance instead of engagement.

Missed homework in senior chemistry also meant less practice applying new concepts during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Gnangara tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after struggling with simultaneous equations, is now able to solve simpler problems independently and even attempts more challenging ones without prompting.

In a recent high school chemistry session, a Year 11 student who previously found calculations confusing was able to identify and correct her own mistakes on a past test as soon as the reasoning was re-explained—something she'd hesitated to do before.

Meanwhile, during a primary session, Bao has started slowing down his basic addition work to check for errors rather than rushing through and missing details.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wanneroo Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Landsdale Primary School.
