Never to discourage a student but instead find the positive side of the student’s academic background and thereby gradually augmenting the strengths of the same student (to have a sanguine attitude). Although the same student already possesses all the necessary skills to achieve their best, sometimes it takes motivation and encouragement from…

Knowing each person personalities and how they can find their type of studying is a better option. Every student have their own style to make it easy to understand and learn. That is why, we also need to adjust and make sure to use the opportunity. Show them the bright side of every subject they hate, do not push the idea to student that they have…

Most importantly I think a tutor should be dedicated in his or her approach to improving a students learning abilities. Also, the teaching should be engaging, challenging and enjoyable so that the student gains the confidence to move towards self learning. I consider myself to be a patient person and a good listener. When teaching I try to…

Students often tend to be awkward and shy, so a tutor need to be laid back and can keep their cool even when students are non-responsive or sometimes, rude. A tutor needs to take the student's academic struggles into account, and praise the efforts they put in and also keep track of the student's progress. The most important thing a tutor can do…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the children is to come at their level and make them understand every thing. Moreover, trying to build a good rapport with them so as to make them comfortable. A tutor should be very understanding and patient. Their first priority should be to concept clearance and improved understanding of the…

A teacher must be absolutely predictable in terms of her expectations of her pupils. She must stick to her classroom expectations and be very consistent. If a class senses that the teacher is unsure, they will be in charge of that classroom very shortly. Therefore, consistency is a must. Fairness is also important. Being willing to listen and…

Helping the student understand, because I always believe if they could understand the topic, they can continue to answer the rest of the questions on their own. I also believe that making the student like to study is one of the important thing of a tutor, because sometimes tutors can be too strict and make the child feel like its just another…

Inside Hammond ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava practised solving equations involving algebraic expressions and worked through simplifying indices with negative numbers.

In Year 8, Tom focused on finding unknown angles using trigonometric ratios and Pythagoras' theorem, supported by diagram-based problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Mia revised rates and ratios as well as performing operations with fractions and decimals to consolidate foundational skills for higher-level maths.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student avoided writing out working for multi-step algebra, preferring to "do it in my head," which led to confusion and missed sign changes.

For a Year 10 student, homework on rearranging trigonometric equations was left incomplete, making class discussions less effective.

In a Year 6 session, messy written solutions made it hard to track mistakes in fractions—"steps were skipped and arrows missing," as noted by the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner struggled with motivation after errors in time problems; he hesitated to attempt new strategies without reassurance, slowing progress on worded questions.

Recent Achievements

A Hammond Park tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to skip steps in algebra now double-checking their work and catching sign errors on their own, especially when rearranging equations.

Another high schooler has begun applying trigonometric relationships correctly in worded problems—something they'd previously avoided for fear of picking the wrong formula.

Meanwhile, one Year 4 student who struggled with basic fractions is now confidently explaining the difference between numerators and denominators to the tutor without prompting, even using visual models to support their answers during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Success Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hammond Park Secondary College.
