Other than the obvious reasons of being able to just regurgitate the content taught in schools in my opinion the most important things a tutor could do for a student is be compassionate for them and empathetic as tutoring is not like school as since they may go tutoring e.g. 1 time per week they need to learn more content than of which they do at…

It's significant that a tutor should teach their students all the important points and lessons in an understandable way, but at the same time, we have to raise our students' confidence and motivate them to study the lessons. I have enough patience to explain every aspect of what I'm teaching. Personally, I am a kind and considerate person so I try…

I believe the most important thing is to help and guide students through the HSC period, and their choices after the HSC. My strength would be that I can understand what the students feel because I have been enroled into many different tutoring centers. My weakness is that I am a quiet person and I don't talk a lot unless it is with close friends,…

Develop their confidence and independence. A tutor should create a supportive environment in which students feel free to ask questions, assist them with learning problem-solving skills that they can use on their own, and ensuring they actually understand the logic behind subjects rather than just memorising formulas. Just being a support for the student in question. Now, obviously, the first idea to jump to there is academically, and this is super important, of course, but also school is a naturally difficult time for a lot of students for a large variety of reasons, and even if the tutor nor student realize it, being there to help dealing with it is a massive…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is restore or establish the students self esteem and help them overcome the challenges they're facing. I think apart from being able to help the students academically, I am able to connect with the students and motivate them, hence encouraging them to depend on themselves to be able to progress…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and empathetic with them. Learning from a tutor can be frustrating and tiresome, especially when the student is not getting it right. A tutor should have the ability to carry the student through this, encouraging and motivating them to achieve their best academic…

This comes from personal experience, but making the subject fun. Subjects like say maths, english, physics aren't always seen as fun by the average student, and can be daunting to think about. Support and believe within the student that they can do it. They are only limited with what they think they think they can achieve, if a student sees their tutor believe they can do it than definitely they will drive their own development. Believe in them. Self confidence is a important factor especially in children. If they are able to see that the tutor believes in their abilities then it teaches them to believe in themselves. Having faced challenges in Science during my high school, I am aware of the problems students face in understanding complex mathematical concepts. They should discuss their…

Inside HammondvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Frazer focused on fractions, decimals, and percentages, practicing conversions between them and solving real-world problems.

In Year 10, Emily worked through bearings questions in mathematics and developed her introductory paragraph for a "Life is Beautiful" essay in English.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mia reviewed critical path analysis concepts as part of HSC exam preparation and went over her trial exam responses to identify key areas for improvement.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students struggled with homework completion and organization.

In Year 11 English, engagement with the subject was low, and little time was spent on assignments, which meant gaps in analysis weren't addressed between sessions.

For Year 10 Maths, as noted: "Byron did not complete his homework for the previous weeks. This isn't the first time." Missed work led to repeated confusion when new topics built on old ones.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student arrived unprepared for class content and homework—extra lesson time went into catching up instead of tackling extension tasks or feedback.

Recent Achievements

A Hammondville tutor noticed Byron stayed focused through the whole maths section this week, a shift from earlier lessons where he'd often lose concentration and need reminders to stay on task.

In Year 10, Mason finished his entire assignment before the session ended—last term, he'd rarely complete more than half in one sitting without prompting.

Another high school student spent less time stalling and got straight into revision questions, something she usually avoids at home.

One primary student quickly recognised different types of angles after previously mixing them up during class activities.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorebank Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hammondville Public School.
