Inside Hampton EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe focused on doubling large numbers and solving multi-step addition problems, then briefly explored fractions using real-life examples.

In Year 9, Liam worked through factorising algebraic expressions and practiced expanding brackets for his upcoming maths test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ben tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences as well as exponential and logarithm questions to deepen understanding ahead of advanced assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 science, a student's note-taking was minimal—he rarely wrote down key lesson points, making later revision harder (he should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book).

During Year 10 algebra, skipping written steps hid small calculation errors and cost marks.

In a Year 11 maths test, time management faltered: "she said she ran out of time during the test so she rushed questions," leading to avoidable mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student completed only familiar multiplication problems for homework, avoiding trickier types and slowing her progress with new concepts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hampton East recently noticed some great shifts in students' approach to learning. One Year 10 student who used to leave tough algebra questions blank is now confidently writing out each step and even drawing diagrams to break down worded problems—something he hadn't tried before.

Another high schooler, after initially rushing through homework, has started spreading out her practice over the week and now gets more answers right without extra help.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously hesitated with times tables volunteered that she'd begun exploring fractions on her own and wanted to tackle harder ones next lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
