One of my tutors in Year 12 told us that confidence is the most important thing a student can have. This has proven to be true in my experience. Once I gained confidence in my knowledge, I was able to experiment with answering questions in different ways, deepening my understanding. As a tutor, the most important thing to do is inspire confidence…

Tutor can be patient with their student and let them learn at their pace. Also, I believe a tutor should NEVER spoon fed but rather act like a mentor, guiding and helping if and only where it is required. I'm patient with students and understand that each student is different and have their own learning pace. I take pride in my ability to break…

Tutoring is very different to a typical classroom setting. Each session is unique and solely focused on the one student. This one-to-one learning experience is something many students wouldn’t normally get in a classroom. Naturally, they’ll be able to ask as many questions as they want. As a result, I’ll feel I’m making a real difference…

Inside Harris ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student worked on addition and subtraction of double-digit numbers, with extra focus on using a number line for subtraction and strategies for borrowing.

In Year 10, Anika tackled advanced algebraic fractions—practicing addition, subtraction, and factorisation—and also expanded and simplified expressions involving surds.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Yash covered properties of the nucleus in Physics, specifically exploring nuclear fission and fusion through real-world examples from Module 8.

Recent Challenges

In Year 2 maths, one student's tendency to draw and become distracted during lessons led to unfinished subtraction tasks; "gets multiplication and division confused with addition and subtraction" was a concern when homework wasn't completed.

In Year 8 algebra, another learner avoided showing working for factorising surds—"remembering how minus signs and brackets must be used" became an issue when errors weren't visible.

A Year 12 physics student relied heavily on memory for Doppler effect formulas but struggled to recall them under HSC exam-style pressure, making it harder to benefit from feedback after practice questions.

Recent Achievements

One Harris Park tutor noticed a big change in a Year 8 student who, after initially struggling with expanding brackets, was confidently working through them independently by the end of their session and even began manipulating fractions more effectively.

Another high schooler recently asked several thoughtful questions about surds—a shift from earlier lessons when he hesitated to speak up—and then applied new rules across problems without prompting.

In a Year 4 lesson, a student who used to guess at double-digit subtraction is now using the number line method consistently and checks her own answers before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Granville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Oliver's Primary School.
