I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only to clearly and effectively teach content but also to share their knowledge and their own personal experiences from the past. This allows students to remain calm, focused and prepared for the hurdles they are yet to overcome. This combined with effective teaching will only…

Inside HeckenbergTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ariana worked through index notation and square roots, focusing on the relationship between powers of two and square roots as well as solving equations involving these concepts, plus time conversion between hours and minutes in decimal form.

For Year 8, Josh practiced squaring numbers and finding square roots while also simplifying fractions and converting between hours and minutes.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Zara focused on long division by understanding terminology and process, alongside building habits like neatness in her maths book.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 Mathematics, one student's written working was often unclear—long division steps were done mentally or skipped, making it difficult for her teacher to follow. As noted: "her answer is correct but her working out is confusing and may not be accepted by her classroom teacher."

Exam revision showed lost notes on angles led to confusion and incomplete answers.

Meanwhile, a primary student repeatedly left homework unfinished before lessons and struggled with times tables, slowing progress in division.

In English (upper primary), avoidance of reading tasks due to dislike meant key vocabulary wasn't reinforced, so comprehension questions remained challenging.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Heckenberg noticed Ariana now tackles long division questions on her own after previously needing reassurance and step-by-step help. She recently completed homework with zero mistakes and even chose to do extra problems independently.

Another high school student moved up to higher-level maths after excelling in his recent assessment; he maintained strong performance at the advanced level, showing real growth from earlier struggles.

In a primary session, Arabella overcame hesitation with rounding numbers—at first unsure, she worked through corrections and ended up getting every question right without support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Miller Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Heckenberg Public School.
