Be patient and understanding and realise that each student has different needs, and that the best way to help each student is to alter the tutoring experience to they needs. Additionally being clear with the student of what their goals are from the beginning and reassuring and instilling confidence in them that they can achieve them. I think my…

The most important thing is to teach students the required knowledge and understand what and why the subject makes them feel hard. Moreover, makes them feel enjoyed in every lesson. Time management and taking responsibility for my duties are my strengths as a tutor. I like planning everything beforehand. Setting up goals and timetable are the most…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to express their own opinion and be confident in themselves. Providing quality feedback on their work and consistent affirmations are also considered important to me as this not only improve the students' academic result, but also their overall personal growth…

I think it is a tutor's job to make the subject fun for the kid and make them love the subject, not develop a hate for it. I used to hate chemistry back in highschool and found it very hard until I found a tutor who made me understand it and I eventually started to love the subject. I ended up getting an A* in the subject. I would want to follow…

The tutor should act like a robust bridge between the student and knowledge. He/she should guide the student in achieving erudition by showing the correct path. Tutors should also try to develop interest in students for subjects and it should not be confined to the prescribed curriculum. On the other hand it is prerogative for the tutor to realize…

The most important thing a tutor does for his students is boosting the morale of their weak students and providing them assistance accordingly because every student has a different grasping level so, unlike a teacher, the tutor has to modify his teaching methods and strategies according to his students. Creating an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and exploring ideas they may be unsure about is one of the most important things a tutor can do. I believe this process of problem solving is what learning is centred around, it ensured students retain the information they learn and know it for what it is instead of just to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to make them realise that they have much more potential than they think. Tutors have the opportunity to show and help students to gain confidence in themselves and this will remain with them not only during their schooling years, but as they grow and face many challenges in life. The…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build confidence in their learning. A tutor should create a supportive environment, explain concepts clearly, and encourage students to think independently rather than just giving answers. This helps students develop long-term understanding and problem-solving skills. One of my…

It is the bond I look forward to with students. The relationship on the ability to connect with them and unblock the barrier that stops them from achieving their dreams. A tutor can help student understand the concepts which can't be understood by the person himself. In addition a tutor can share their experiences with their students on how he or she developed a clear understanding of a particular subject and can explain the real life applications of the subjects that the students study. Inside Holland Park WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Emma worked through ratios, angles, and percentages in detail, including an extended session to address extra questions via FaceTime.

Year 8 student Max focused on algebraic equations and substituting values, practising with worked examples.

For Year 7, Ava revised index laws and prime factor form using step-by-step breakdowns to build confidence with challenging exam-style problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student did not complete assigned homework, which meant in the next session, "we had to repeat last week's content" on long division and cross multiplication instead of progressing.

In Year 11, one student left practice exam questions unfinished before a test; as a result, their ability to recall percentage rules under pressure dropped sharply.

A Year 4 child often avoided writing out working for multi-digit addition—leading to confusion with carrying digits and hidden mistakes that took extra time to track down.

One tutor noted, "he tends to doubt himself," so written answers were left blank or erased when uncertain.

Recent Achievements

One Holland Park West tutor noticed that a Year 8 student, Sal, initially struggled to explain maths concepts aloud but recently taught the tutor how to solve ratio and fraction problems—showing real growth in understanding and independence.

In another session, a high schooler named Isaac had always relied on memorising algebraic expressions; after working through the reasoning behind them, he started answering questions confidently without falling back on rote recall.

Meanwhile, Dao in Year 4, who once hesitated to write independently, now writes well-structured sentences with less prompting and has become impressively quick with multiplication facts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Holland Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marshall Road State School.
