A tutor must be able to not simply teach a subject but also create a desire for learning and must be able to do both to effectively teach. I also think that a tutor should be able to build on previously known concepts by the student and be able to articulate ideas in different ways to enhance their understanding of a topic. My strengths lie in my…

i believe a tutor has to have a solid understanding of all content to provide the best support to a student, has to be patient, must know a range of way to approach a question, and must be readily available to answer questions through online or in person, and a tutor should be friendly and willing to have fun with the lesson so as it doesn't…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide encouragement and maybe change their perspective on a subject that may seem difficult and overwhelming, to know they can achieve success in that subject. I believe that personalisation is what sets apart a tutor from an effective teacher. Students should initially be analysed for their approach to questions, personal goals and grievances to adroitly construct a program for them to adapt to. Consistency can further this notion and assist the student in improving their grades. My Strengths as a tutor…

Becoming friends with the actual student that helps them grow as individuals rather than simply teaching content is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is put themselves in the shoes of the student. It's very easy as a tutor to just assume your student knows a concept and continue teaching as if they know it. This happened a lot in high school, especially with maths . It's super important that the tutor first understand the level and…

Providing adequate feedback is the most important trait of a tutor. A tutor must identify key areas of weakness especially for maths. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is firstly enhance their knowledge. Also schools may be a great learning space, sometimes because of the amount of students in a class, it may become hard for a child to communicate and get extra help from the teacher. Thus, a tutor is able to provide this by directly helping students and…

Local Reviews

Inside HuntingwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Olivia focused on revising financial maths concepts and practicing calculations with percentages and fractions.

For Year 11, Ethan worked through equilibrium expressions including Keq, Ka, Kb, and Ksp, applying these to real exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah completed HSC Chemistry trial paper practice with a focus on enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs Free Energy calculations, consolidating her understanding using past exam problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student left units out of calculations, making it harder to spot errors when revising.

For a Year 12 maths student, "working was messy and difficult to follow," which meant extra time spent untangling steps rather than progressing with new content.

A senior English student rushed written responses and overlooked tense consistency; the tutor noted, "cleaner working out is needed to avoid confusion."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 science student avoided attempting unfamiliar questions—skipping these limited exposure to challenging material and reduced confidence when facing similar tasks in assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Huntingwood noticed a Year 11 student who had struggled with exam mistakes in quadratics took the initiative to correct every error from their last test and showed much stronger understanding of the content this time.

In a Year 9 session, one student who used to skip challenging questions now reattempts all those he gets wrong, asking clarifying questions instead of moving on confused.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who was hesitant about fractions recently worked hard through an entire chapter's revision, managing to solve most problems correctly independently without needing step-by-step prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Evans High School.
