Personally, the most important thing is that you get the students to actually understand the lessons and know what they are doing rather than just completing their works. I can stay back for extra time just to make they understand the lessons. ACHIEVEMENTS: HSC Mathematics: Band 6 in Mathematic Advanced High Band 5 in Mathematic Extension…

I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Moreover, a tutor should guide their students in a manner in which they can focus on key areas of improvement and then work on realistic goals, which…

I believe a tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I'm patient and adaptable, and I take the time to explain concepts in different ways until they really make sense to the student. I try to create an encouraging space where they feel…

I think the most important thing as a tutor you need to be honest, be flexible, be patient, be a good listener, teach the student how to learn. I believe tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more…

I wasn't the smartest kid in the school and I don't think a person good at doing tutoring is how their intelligent in the area. I believe is more like how they can understand the children, understand why they feel the difficult on the subject. As Normal kid myself, I have the ability be the good tutor I think. I have the ability to allow kid to…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to truly understand the student and make them feel supported and comfortable. It's crucial to identify where the student is struggling and where they need support, as well as recognizing their potential. Tailoring the teaching approach to suit the individual needs of each student is key, as I…

2 Visions I embrace with every student I teach: 1. For the student to adopt good work habits. For example: - maintaining complete and well-ordered notes for every class - diligent homework completion - asking their classroom teacher for clarification as soon as they do not understand a new concept and, - ensuring any missed…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student can vary, depending on the student. For e.g I had a friend who's outlook on maths was very negative, he had despised it his whole life and every time we'd have maths h would just have a frown upon his face and his mood would change. I assumed this was because he had never really…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspiring them into studying. It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. This means not only continuing teaching the student but also means that the tutor should always believe a student can improve with their guidance. In addition, it is essential for a tutor to be able to learn the student's strengths and weaknesses and their way of thinking, so the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to become independent. I would say that tutoring is only a temporary solution to their academic problems. If they are going to enter a university, get a real job or did not have enough money to pay for tutoring services, I would want them to learn on their own. A time would…

A tutor can show students how challenging questions are done and prepare them well for their exams/tests. Plus, encourage them to put in their full potential to score well in exams. I am free to explain any concept, numerous times until the student has really understood. My job is to make sure they know what they are actually doing. I try to give…

Encouraging independence is significant. Students should be introduced to strategies to be independent and more effective learners. Being a motivator who encourages students to strive to be the best they can, to reach their goals, to focus on their strengths so that they will be successful in the future. A tutor should be able to understand a student very well and be with them when they are in need. Many students tend to hate maths for a number of reasons but surely this can easily been changed and it is the tutor’s responsibility to do so. My main strength is that I am great with kids. I can easily understand a child’s weakness and will…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build understanding, confidence, and independence. A tutor should also create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. This helps build…

Inside Huntleys PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Rose worked on classifying angles and triangles, as well as practicing rounding with larger numbers up to the millions.

Year 8 student Jess focused on trigonometry basics, learning how to use sine, cosine, and tangent in right-angled triangle problems, and practiced rearranging equations for linear relationships using graphing techniques.

Imogen (Year 7) revised adding and subtracting fractions, including improper fractions and mixed numerals, while also tackling lowest common multiples and highest common factors through practical examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tended to avoid showing working for algebra and factorisation, especially with "simpler" steps; as a tutor noted, "she skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This led to small mistakes going unnoticed until the end of questions.

In contrast, a Year 4 student hesitated when faced with mixed times tables and sometimes reverted to finger-counting under pressure—this slowed her progress during mental arithmetic drills.

Both students occasionally lost confidence after minor setbacks, resulting in extra time spent double-checking answers rather than moving forward confidently with new material.

Recent Achievements

A Huntleys Point tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with complex algebra now methodically checks her multi-step solutions and even corrects minor errors on her own.

In Year 8, another student who once avoided asking questions now regularly seeks clarification during lessons, especially when tackling trickier Pythagoras' theorem problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who struggled to recall times tables can now complete all six times table questions—both in and out of order—with perfect accuracy and has started applying new mental strategies for harder multiplication problems.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladesville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Riverside Girls High School.
