The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them carefully and attentively showing all engagement towards the student. This allows the tutor to understand what is difficult and what is easier for the student and at the same time displays to the student that the tutor cares and wants to better the student's life. I am…

To prepare for class and constantly check up on their progress. Students often need help outside of class, which lots of tutors do not provide. I am always accessible outside of class hours, ensuring students get help whenever they need it. Another important thing is to motivate the student. Most students want to get through the next exam, but I also consider it important that knowledge and skills are reinforced and retained for years, if not for life. Because I've studied chemistry, I have a broad grasp of sciences from biology to physics and maths, and can help students link related concepts in a reinforcing manner. I've also worked…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is provide an opportunity for the student to thrive. To establish belief in them, as typically students seek out tutoring as they believe they are not 'good' at a subject. Being the one person there that cheers them on is a powerful thing. Providing alternate methods for students to learn is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. One has to understand that every child has different ways of learning as well as the pace at which they learn. Therefore, a tutor should be perfectly fine with repeating a thing many times. A tutor should also be judgement free during the tutoring process as this makes the…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

Local Reviews

Since Brendan has been working weekly with my daughter I have seen a big increase in her confidence, her understanding and sense of efficacy and mostly her willingness to do her maths which before she found abstract, confusing and "boring". She told me Brendan makes learning maths fun compared to my parental maths tips from "1874" (in her words). The monthly feedback and email support from Ezymaths is more than I had imagined when I thought about a tutor. For us, it is 100% worth the investment.

Inside InalaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia worked through calculations involving area, perimeter, and volume for school assignments, and then explored the basics of mensuration including composite volumes.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on coordinate geometry—calculating gradients and distances between points—and practiced using Pythagoras' theorem for both 2D and 3D problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Aisha tackled simultaneous equations by substitution and elimination methods, and revised key algebra skills such as rearranging equations and expanding binomial products.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student relied heavily on calculators for basic operations during algebra revision, with notes highlighting, "needs working on different formats like decimals."

In a senior Maths session, one learner struggled to rearrange equations and hesitated to write out steps, especially when forming equations from worded problems; the tutor noted, "Need to improve forming the equations by putting the brackets to determine which order of operations goes first."

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student often forgot to bring their maths book and homework, leading to missed practice opportunities. The gap in organization left them unprepared during reading and numeracy activities.

Recent Achievements

One Inala tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to tackle equations on his own now working through rearrangement steps with much less prompting—he's even started asking for extra practice questions when he gets stuck, rather than waiting passively.

A senior student has shown clear progress in matrix multiplication: she's noticeably quicker and more accurate than just two weeks ago, where she often mixed up the order of operations.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled to add and subtract integers without help can now complete basic problems independently, finishing an entire worksheet without any hints this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inala Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mark's School.
