I think the most important thing is really understanding how each student learns, not just what they're struggling with. I try to be patient and break things down until it actually clicks for them, not just enough to get through the next assignment. And I think creating a space where they feel comfortable asking questions, even if they think it's…

it Is really important to sit down with the mentee and work out what they want and what you can give. While tutoring is about straight knowledge transfer, but I believe mostly its about seeing strengths in that particular tutee and making them aware of those strengths. I respect my student individuality, leadership style and goals regardless of…

Become their guide to doing well in whatever subjects they require help with. This can come with making notes after every lesson in what the students weaknesses and strengths are, that can help support them through the next lesson or at school. As well as to prepare students for exams and assessments the best way tutors can, as they have also once…

According to me, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is wake up their curiosity. Getting good grades are important, but equally important is to make sure that the student is enjoying and understanding the subject being taught. As this helps make the student pursue the subjects further. These are the future of the humanity,…

The most important thing is to probably instead of spoonfeeding the information to the student, communicate the importance of practice, discipline and routine. Moreover, to guide them along with their curiosity instead of just giving them questions to do. I think my adaptability would be useful for fields that I might not be as experienced at. My…

I believe that patience and consideration are the most important things, as it can take very different amounts of time for people to understand concepts that I may have learnt at a faster pace, or that another student learnt faster. Flexibility is also important as everybody learns in a unique way, and what may help one person completely…

The thing I consider the most important is the dedication, with flexible schedules, willing to help the student whenever is required. Also, the possibility of giving online lessons might be a good idea for the student to schedule the classes. And finally, my methodology is based on a close treat with the student as I don’t want him to see me as…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure there is continual improvement in their work. If there are signs the student is not improving, then it's important to look for weaknesses or anything the student is struggling with and work on those areas. Imparting an enjoyment of learning something new. I am only with the student for a short time compared to their time in school, so increasing intrinsic motivation to learn has a much greater effect in the long run, as well as decreasing the chance of burnout due to stress in the higher grades. Since students most commonly get tutoring as they do not understand the approach taken by their teacher to the subject, I believe the most important thing is to relate to the student, and see the problem from their perspective. This leads to the ability to create personalised approaches to the theories presented in class, and allow the student to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them how to think and learn. This is far more valuable for future work and study than any one topic to be learnt. A tutor should be able to establish rapport and trust by being honest. This is the critical element to a successful tutoring relationship. Being patient is also very important as what might be obvious and easy for a tutor may not be for that student. Being a good listener is another essential characteristic that a tutor must-have, as it's vital to…

Local Reviews

Eli is doing so well with Filip. Yesterday was only his third lesson with but he already feels like Filip understood the areas which need attention and he helps him to understand the questions better. He now looks forward to his tutoring lessons, which he was def not keen about at the start. Thank you so much for your help and we look forward to continuing our lessons with Filip.

Inside KalingaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex focused on simplifying fractions and finding highest common factors, then tackled percentage word problems involving ratios.

For Year 10, Jackson reviewed the cosine rule and practiced graphing exponential functions, also reinforcing power and index laws using variables in algebraic contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Priya concentrated on identifying turning points and intercepts when graphing quadratics, using step-by-step worked examples to deepen her understanding of these key features.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, a student hesitated to write full working for complex rearrangements, which sometimes hid calculation slips—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors.

For a Year 11 calculus assignment, feedback from the draft was not always implemented; small errors recurred even after comments were given.

In Year 7, confidence issues with mental arithmetic led to second-guessing and slowed progress during worded problem tasks.

Meanwhile, a primary student often forgot key parts of multi-step questions in number patterns until prompted to re-read instructions. This left gaps in answers that only became obvious at review.

Recent Achievements

One Kalinga tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to guess through multiple-choice maths problems now pausing to cross out obviously wrong answers, narrowing down her choices and explaining her thinking aloud.

A Year 12 student who struggled with rearranging complex equations in physics began independently switching between variables and even anticipated how to revolve an area between two curves before it was formally introduced—showing new initiative.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student grasped fraction operations so well after one explanation that she confidently completed the next set of questions without hesitation or extra help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nundah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eagle Junction State School.
