I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build trust and confidence. A student should feel comfortable asking questions without fear of being judged. Beyond improving grades, a tutor should help students develop study habits, problem-solving skills, and self-belief so they can succeed on their own too. My main strengths are patience…

Analyse the student and find out what they need the most, which area they need help and help them understand the concept, not just memorise them. I have excelled in maths and science in high school in Sydney and got band 6 in HSC Maths Extension 2 in year 11 as an accelerated student. I am now a third year medical student at Western Sydney…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build a student's confidence, not just their grades. When I mentored , I noticed that once they believed they could succeed, academic improvements naturally followed. A tutor should guide the student to think independently, celebrate small wins, and create a space where asking questions feels…

I believe tutors have the biggest impact on how a student approaches a subject. Speaking from personal experience, I don't think I would've liked studying the subjects I had in year 10, 11 and 12 if I hadn't had good teachers who knew how to make the subjects interesting to learn. A tutor is capable of making studying feel less burdensome and I…

I think tutors should be able to lead students to a better way of studying and solving problems rather than just teach them how to figure out a question. And if students have any problems during this way, tutor should help them to solve it. I am good at math and physics. I have earned a second-class and a third-class awards in HeBei province's…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only to clearly and effectively teach content but also to share their knowledge and their own personal experiences from the past. This allows students to remain calm, focused and prepared for the hurdles they are yet to overcome. This combined with effective teaching will only…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give him the confidence that he or she can achieve their goals. Patience Using innovative ideas to…

A tutor, more than simply teach content, should be able to make their subject enjoyable, open and motivational for students. A successful tutor is one whose influence goes beyond the tutoring center, and drives greater change in the students academic and personal life. I believe the most important function of a tutor is to motivate and challenge their students to be the best version of themselves. Though tutors provide academic support, their main priorities should lie in their interpersonal connection with their students. If this connection didn’t exist, students might as well watch a prerecorded video. This…

Inside KearnsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Amelia focused on addition and subtraction strategies, as well as multiplication basics using visual aids.

For Year 8, Sam worked through linear relationships—finding equations of lines and interpreting gradients—plus some revision on surface area of composite shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Grace tackled trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan), solving for unknown sides in right-angled triangles, and practiced applying the Pythagorean theorem to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly mixed up the gradient and y-intercept when rearranging equations, which slowed progress in graphing tasks.

"He moved everything to one side, but only needed to move -7x to make y the subject," a tutor observed during linear algebra.

In senior physics, another student avoided referencing data directly from graphs in written answers—missing marks despite knowing the content.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 learner often forgot to show all steps for negative number operations in algebra, resulting in hidden calculation errors that took extra time to find and correct before moving forward.

Recent Achievements

A Kearns tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who'd always hesitated to ask questions during lessons now actively speaks up when stuck on complex trig problems, instead of just guessing and moving on.

Another high schooler has gone from confusing gradients and y-intercepts to independently rearranging linear equations into general form and checking their work for errors without prompting.

In primary, one younger learner who used to rush through reading tasks is now pausing and self-correcting tricky words before continuing—a big change in focus.

Last week, that same student read an entire new chapter aloud with only one prompt.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kearns Public School.
