Personally, I think it is important to boost students' confidence in their abilities by providing positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. Additionally, promote analytical thinking and problem-solving skills rather than just memorisation of facts. And finally, offer emotional support and encouragement, helping students manage stress and…

Honestly, the most important thing I believe I can do for my students as a tutor is offering and showing my support for them. Academic demands will get stressful and well, boring. Therefore, I personally believe that showing my presence and guidance will help them tremendously, both academically and emotionally. My strength as a tutor is the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to accommodate their learning style. Students have ranging techniques and motivations when learning content. Personally, I struggled with auditory learning as a student, and would therefore ask my teachers to give me a range of tactile learning techniques to assist in my learning. I…

Tutors needs to deliver their fullest in educating the student. They need to have the patience to redirect from the main concept in focus to teach the fundamentals which the student lacks the knowledge. I explain as detailed as possible depending on the extent the student knows-if the student lacks the basics of the subject, I make a considerable…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I believe that results are mostly achieved through the effort of the students themselves, so as a tutor I try my best to cover all the concepts and to provide my students with support materials, but I also make sure that my students…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. Without this ability to change as necessary you are putting your students at a significant disadvantage. Breaking down complex concepts into simple ideas. I believe that tutors must have a good attitude and genuinely enjoy the concepts and the subject. Without this, the student will most likely find the tutoring bland and boring, which would reduce their engagement and their overall performance and knowledge in the subject. I think an essential thing a tutor can do for their student is be empathetic! Often, for teachers, its hard to understand what students are feeling, since school and lifestyle has changed from the time they were students to now (in a global pandemic). Therefore, being an tutor who displays empathy about understanding what its like being a student…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. A tutor will ideally be able to give a student confidence, knowledge, an understanding of why learning is important, and hopefully some sense of enjoyment of the learning process. Inside KeswickTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alice worked on algebraic expressions and basic trigonometry, practicing expanding brackets and identifying unknowns.

For Year 11, Sam focused on using derivatives to find sign diagrams and analyse the shape of graphs, then applied second derivatives to locate key graph points.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Grace concentrated on integration techniques and revisited core concepts through targeted exam preparation questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student's graph sketching was limited, making it harder to interpret trigonometric functions; as a tutor noted, "she needed prompting to connect different types of trig questions."

In Year 9, messy and disorganized books meant assignment instructions were missed or misunderstood—this led to confusion when drawing diagrams for worded problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student hesitated with time conversions and mixed up "half past" and "minutes to," especially under test conditions.

A lack of regular homework completion in these cases left gaps unaddressed until just before assessments, adding unnecessary stress during revision.

Recent Achievements

A Keswick tutor recently noticed Tia catching herself about to draw a line with the wrong gradient during a revision session—last term she often needed step-by-step help for this.

In another case, Molly (also high school) began bringing in her own tricky questions from class and now works through challenging problems independently after just some light prompting; previously, she hesitated to tackle harder tasks alone.

Meanwhile, Natalia in Year 3 showed new initiative by self-correcting missed parts of questions without reminders and successfully read an analogue clock unassisted for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Goodwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Richmond Primary School.
