A tutor can help to build self-confidence among students. A tutor can motivate/ engage the students in their lesson by presenting/explaining the lesson in an interesting way. I am confident that my passion and experience are the qualities any parent are looking for a Tutor. I would love the opportunity to be a hardworking, passionate about a…

Equip them with the ability to eventually solve problems independently. At the end of the day, the role of tutoring is to help students foster independent thinking so they can overcome academic challenges on their own, because being self-sufficient is important. Also, I try to foster enthusiasm in the subjects being taught, so students can…

The most important things a tutor can do firstly include, boosting the student's confidence. Secondly, communicating concepts in a fashion that the student understands. And thirdly, creating an environment in which the student will feel free to ask questions and make mistakes. My strengths are clear explanations in a structured manner, patience,…

The knowledge and the ability to design lessons, lesson activities, practical tasks and weekly tests are important aspects of successful tutoring. For instance, breaking down complex…

Build their confidence as much as their knowledge. A lot of students who struggle aren't actually bad at the subject they've just convinced themselves they are. Fixing that mindset matters as much as getting the right answer. I'm good at breaking down complex problems step by step without overcomplicating it. I also don't make students feel stupid…

Most Important is student's individual evaluation. A proper Strength-weakness analysis followed by relevant corrective measures can bore right results. Further a Tutor can mentor the student both academically and emotionally to boost the morale. This can can instill confidence and help the student to think logically and inculcate creativity and…

A tutor must be willing to work with and adapt for each student. It is critical to not treat tutoring as one-size-fits-all - indeed many students may be getting a tutor because standard learning methods aren't working for them. It is also essential that tutors create a safe learning space where students are free to ask questions and give opinions.…

Be able to understand that not every student is the same. Everyone's unique and their learning styles are different, so approaching every student with the same method to teach is not a good idea. Making sure to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student and tutor according to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, the…

A tutor should connect with a student and approach problems in a way best for the student rather than what a tutor is more familiar with. With many problems, there are a variety of ways to go about it. The ability to adapt for the student to best understand it is important. I believe that I am good at describing solutions in a variety of ways to…

1. Assist them in developing a learning style that is most suited to them. Everyone learns differently, everyone gets motivated differently. Finding the right strategy to learning increases the outcome-effort ratio and the adopted learning strategy allows them to become independent learners for life. 2. Make them feel supported at all time,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, not to just explain a certain problem but to help them understand the concept behind it, explain to them why they are doing it. To never mock or demean a student for any questions or doubts they have, even if they are considered obvious. I believe helping a student with what they are struggling with can do a lot with providing the student with encouragement to persist in reaching the best they can be. That requires the tutor to not only motivate the student but also have patience. Some of my strengths would be that I'm patient, clear and concise, as well as…

- Simplify the subject/topic at hand, making a very challenging topic seem approachable and solvable. - Build rapport, and perhaps gain a form of friendship, so that the learning experience seems less like teaching at school/university, and more friendly and relaxed, which is conducive to enjoyable learning. Allow the student to have freedom of thought and to develop critical and logical thinking, whilst keeping in the bounds of the subject criteria that will be accessed. Also encourage the students to see the benefit from studying and to provide real life experience to aid in their learnings. e.g., maybe demonstrating a mathematics topic and how it…

Being willing to help, but also acknowledge the rare instances where a tutor may be unable to help to a confident level. I believe it is better to acknowledge if you do not know something rather than pretend you do and risk teaching something that is incorrect. When this problem is encountered, however, it is up to the tutor to rectify this by…

Inside KeysboroughTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jaxxon worked on one-digit addition and subtraction, as well as reading analogue clocks to the nearest five minutes.

Year 9 student Trin practiced trinomial factorisation using both the cross product and grouping methods, alongside solving bearings problems with step-by-step diagrams.

In Year 10, Emma focused on solving quadratic equations through factorisation and completing the square, also tackling worded questions that connect quadratics to real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, a student repeatedly avoided writing out all working steps, choosing to do calculations in their head; as noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This made it harder to trace mistakes and slowed progress on multi-step questions.

A Year 11 student over-relied on her calculator but forgot key settings like the degrees symbol, leading to incorrect trigonometry answers.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student left place value homework incomplete and struggled to remember addition strategies between sessions—making retention of new skills challenging when revisiting similar problems days later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Keysborough noticed that one high school student, who used to hesitate when unsure, now immediately asks for help as soon as something feels unclear—leading him to complete all his worksheets and homework on time without reminders.

Another high schooler has begun tackling challenging worded maths problems by breaking them down independently, only seeking hints when truly stuck, a big step up from previously waiting passively for guidance.

In Year 4, Charlotte struggled with long multiplication and division at first but, after some targeted support, she managed to solve similar questions on her own during the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dandenong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chandler Park Primary School.
