the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student, is to teach the how to learn content, it is to teach them to be self sufficient, switched on and motivated. It is to make the canvas blank before filling it with knowledge that is new and unknown. My ideology for tutoring is to teach a kid how to learn and then make him or her learn it. I…

Encouraging students to keep going, keep practicing, and keep learning is extremely important for improvement, while empowering students to feel confident in their abilities is invaluable in helping them tackle new problems, and applying knowledge to the…

Above all else, I think a tutor can give a student confidence in whatever work students have due. Once their confidence is built up, they will respond better to not just tutoring outside, but also teaching in the classroom and result to a deeper understanding of the content. I think I am well versed in most subjects, and am an excellent…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do is to empower students to think, create and achieve with engaging experiences. It is also important for a tutor to be flexible in tailoring the learning to suit the needs of each student. My strength as a tutor would be my patience and passion in challenging myself to apply different strategies…

From my experience I noticed that there are students who still hold their voices at school when they have a doubt due to several factors. Once they are comfortable with a tutor, they are more open to questions in their mind and try solving them one on one with the tutor. On this note, I find being a tutor amusing as I always find solving their…

I am opinion I reckon the most important is for the student to know their true passion in knowledge. Many of us are forced to be good at something and spend thousands of hours of hard work. Everyone could achieve a reasonably high score if they had spent the effort in it, given they were not demotivated during the process. I believe it is most…

Patience and a willingness to provide the support a student needs is incredibly important. Being a good tutor requires you to be a good listener. Without listening to problems that students may experience, the time spent for both the student and the tutor will be wasted. I take pride in my ability to allow students to communicate any struggles that they may have before starting. In addition, being engaging while teaching ensures that…

Each student learns in a unique way and at a different pace and thus a good tutor must understand this and personalise their learning. Alongside this, the tutor must focus on building the student's confidence and teaching to their strengths before wandering into waters unfamiliar to the student. In addition to helping students understand why and how things are done, mentors must also encourage and be patient with students while they are in the process of achieving. I firmly believe that making student's confident about the subject is the most important thing. A tutor is someone who guides the student to the solution also letting the student explore the new entities. It is not like providing the question and the answer at the same time. A tutor must be able to win the heart of the student so the student loves…

Inside KeysboroughTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jaxxon worked on one-digit addition and subtraction, as well as reading analogue clocks to the nearest five minutes.

Year 9 student Trin practiced trinomial factorisation using both the cross product and grouping methods, alongside solving bearings problems with step-by-step diagrams.

In Year 10, Emma focused on solving quadratic equations through factorisation and completing the square, also tackling worded questions that connect quadratics to real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, a student repeatedly avoided writing out all working steps, choosing to do calculations in their head; as noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This made it harder to trace mistakes and slowed progress on multi-step questions.

A Year 11 student over-relied on her calculator but forgot key settings like the degrees symbol, leading to incorrect trigonometry answers.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student left place value homework incomplete and struggled to remember addition strategies between sessions—making retention of new skills challenging when revisiting similar problems days later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Keysborough noticed that one high school student, who used to hesitate when unsure, now immediately asks for help as soon as something feels unclear—leading him to complete all his worksheets and homework on time without reminders.

Another high schooler has begun tackling challenging worded maths problems by breaking them down independently, only seeking hints when truly stuck, a big step up from previously waiting passively for guidance.

In Year 4, Charlotte struggled with long multiplication and division at first but, after some targeted support, she managed to solve similar questions on her own during the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dandenong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chandler Park Primary School.
