Chemistry Tutor Budgewoi, NSW
As discussed before, I believe a tutor should be flexible in their teaching in order to meet the needs of each student. However even more importantly, an effective tutor should inspire students. I strongly believe that one of the greatest barriers to learning is the "study hard and get good grades" mentality. The aim of a tutor should not be…

Inside Kingfisher ShoresTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Claudia worked on converting fractions to decimals and vice versa, as well as adding simple fractions using diagrams for clarity.

In Year 7, Leonardo practiced multiplying two-digit numbers by larger numbers (e.g., 345 Ă— 23) and completed a creative writing task to assess his English skills.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Nina revised how to add mixed numbers and learned to find the lowest common multiple of two numbers in maths.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student did not complete assigned homework on times tables, which meant time in the next session was spent revisiting unfinished tasks instead of advancing to new concepts.

For a Year 10 English lesson, difficulty transferring ideas from verbal discussion to written form led to incomplete creative writing drafts—"he struggled to get started once it was time to write," as one tutor observed.

In Year 7 Algebra, messy written work and inconsistent layout made checking for errors harder and caused confusion when reviewing working out. These habits resulted in lost learning time and growing frustration with revision.

Recent Achievements

One Kingfisher Shores tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who used to hesitate with algebra now tackling linear equations independently, choosing to write her working out in her book which helped her feel more confident and less worried about making mistakes.

In another session, a Year 11 student who had previously mixed up perimeter and area was able to solve composite shape problems on her own after revisiting the steps, even checking her answers without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student made a shift from relying on fingers for addition to solving sums mentally and quickly drew accurate times on an analogue clock.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Morisset Library, bawarramalang—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mannering Park Public School.
