I think the most important thing a tutor can do is create an environment that is supportive and built for growth. I also believe it's important that a tutor should make a student feel comfortable with asking questions and making mistakes because, after all, mistakes are how you learn. I believe my strengths are my patience and breaking down…

A tutor must be able to not simply teach a subject but also create a desire for learning and must be able to do both to effectively teach. I also think that a tutor should be able to build on previously known concepts by the student and be able to articulate ideas in different ways to enhance their understanding of a topic. My strengths lie in my…

I believe that personalisation is what sets apart a tutor from an effective teacher. Students should initially be analysed for their approach to questions, personal goals and grievances to adroitly construct a program for them to adapt to. Consistency can further this notion and assist the student in improving their grades. My Strengths as a tutor…

Help them understand without getting frustrated and giving up mentally, but pretend to show interest. Make them feel open to question, no matter how simple the question sounds. I believe the role of a tutor is to help build a student’s confidence by being willing to share their own experiences in order to show them they are not alone. I also think having patience and being flexible is essential for a mentor to have, to understand that teaching and mentoring can require a long time and should accept that everyone is…

A tutor's main focus should be on helping the student improve their abilities and assisting them in overcoming their weaknesses. Good communication and a good understanding are essential aspects in ensuring a tutor is able to focus on the student's weaknesses and help them improve in the areas they most need to work on. Most importantly, a tutor…

I think its vital for a tutor make studying the subject rewarding to the student. Math eventually became my favourite subject in school but I started off in 5th Grade pretty weak at it, it was only because my teacher in the 6th grade had a very creative and rewarding way of teaching that I started to enjoy and eventually I got really good at it. I…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is firstly enhance their knowledge. A tutor can help a student to gain confidence. Usually students lose confidence and thus lose interest in a subject. A tutor can be a best friend at times. Not every time we need to make our students just do their studies. The biggest thing a tutor can contribute is his/her time. For a student getting access to his/her tutor at any time with any hurdle is the biggest thing that he/she needs. So I guess being available at all times for a student is the biggest…

Inside Kings ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jacqui revised long division, multiplication, and indices in preparation for her recent test.

For Year 8, Alysse focused on compound interest calculations and completed a financial maths assessment task using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Grace practised algebraic techniques including simplifying and expanding expressions as well as applying the trapezoidal rule to solve area problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left out written steps in algebra, making it hard to spot sign errors—"he wrote just answers, so we couldn't see where negatives went wrong."

In a Year 11 trigonometry session, reliance on last-minute cramming led to gaps with new material after weeks focused only on algebra.

One Year 4 student's messy working and unclear layout during BODMAS questions meant mistakes were harder to track and correct.

During a senior English essay task, skipping feedback meant language techniques weren't improved for the next draft.

Moments like these slowed progress and built frustration as deadlines approached.

Recent Achievements

In Year 10, Alysse received a 95% on her recent maths assessment after previously needing extra help with equations and now quickly picking up new problem types.

Jacqui, a high schooler, used to rush through questions and make mistakes but has started taking time to check answers and applies feedback independently during sessions.

Meanwhile, Michael in primary school moved from needing support for basic addition to completing place value and measurement tasks without help—last week he answered every question correctly on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marayong Heights Public School.
