The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is highlight their strengths as a learner. I don't want students to think they need a tutor because they need help and feel badly about their current academic performance. I want students to have control over their learning when it comes to choices, activities, and material. Students should…

They must be able to relate to the student's situation and current understanding of topics/content. This is the only way tutors can identify what student's need to work and create methods for them to see real improvement. I am attentive and understanding of each student's personal situation and needs, thereby helping me teach them at the correct…

As a tutor, I believe it is essential to help students genuinely understand the concepts they find challenging, while continuously adapting my teaching approach to suit their learning style. A tutor should also create a supportive environment that builds confidence and encourages students to think independently. My strengths include being patient,…

It is to understand that the students are human as well, we all make mistakes. By being patient and understanding the issues impacting their learning, we can further help them to achieve their goals. What do you consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student? Making sure that all of my student's questions are answered before the end of the lesson is one of the most important things in tutoring in my opinion. Asking question is the best way of learning and therefore answering question is the best way of teaching.…

To me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Beyond just imparting knowledge, I believe that a tutor's role is to serve as a guide, mentor, and cheerleader rolled into one. Firstly, it's crucial to create a safe and supportive environment where students…

The most important thing a tutor can do is empower a student by making them believe in their ability. My strengths are that I can empathise with students as I have been in their positions. In addition, I believe I have a strength in clear communication, which is important because that helps me explain solutions to students and help them understand…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is collaboration. Being able to communicate, preparing early on and mapping out what the students require is essential to being a good tutor. I think my strength as a tutor would be due to my experience of doing the HSC and due to my flexibility as a student in the University of Sydney,…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student to help them learn is to make the subject/topic approachable. From personal experience learning in the past, even the subtlest differences in teaching methods greatly affect a student's interest and capacity to learn. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not teach them how to answer a specific question but to ensure they understand the logic behind the answering methodology. Motivating them is probably the most important, as students can be brilliant but fall behind quickly if they do not have the drive to improve. I think that a tutor also needs to have multiple different ways of approaching a question as a student might not be able to grasp a particular one. Furthermore, I believe that generically working through…

A tutor's job is to build confidence and make learning feel rewarding. That starts with clear explanations, patient encouragement, and adapting to the student's pace. Inside KyeemaghTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Sasha focused on algebra questions and consolidating her understanding of positive and negative integers through targeted practice.

Year 9 sessions with Liam addressed trigonometric ratios, including basic applications of sine, cosine, and tangent, as well as graphing these functions.

For Year 11 student Emily, recent lessons explored quadratic equations—covering both factorising techniques and use of the quadratic formula—plus applied skills to real-world problem scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student did not attend the scheduled online lesson despite reminders; as noted, "sent her texts and emails before the class, which she has not replied." This gap disrupts progress on planned tutorials.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Algebra, incomplete homework was an issue: "must take his homework seriously, otherwise he will suffer the consequences of poor results."

A Year 8 student erased working out repeatedly rather than showing full steps—"erases work with an eraser instead of keeping working out"—making it harder to pinpoint misunderstandings during problem-solving.

Missed feedback and hidden errors slow improvement in both cases.

Recent Achievements

One Kyeemagh tutoring session saw a Year 10 student independently catch a calculation error before the tutor did, showing real engagement rather than just following along—he used to be more passive with problem-solving.

In another high school example, a student who had previously skipped writing down her maths working now consistently records every step and talks through her reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner tackled mixed numerals for the first time and was eager to attempt challenging questions on her own, asking for extra practice worksheets without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brighton-Le-Sands Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kyeemagh Public School.
