The most important thing is being able to connect with the children and spark curiosity about the subjects in their minds. As them being excited to learn makes them more receptive to learn more complex topics with relative ease. My strengths are approaching problems with different perspectives and focusing on the logic and structure of the…

1. Personalize the learning. every student is different, so what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. 2. Be ready to help. As the job entails, the tutor must be willing to work according to the student's desire. 3. Teaching them how to learn. the ultimate goal of the tutor is teaching the students how to learn and apply. To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

Everything begins with building a relationship with the child/student and getting to know them as a person, what interests them inside and outside of school. I believe in my students and their ability to succeed academically and overall and I make this message clear. I tell them, on a regular basis, I believe in you! You can do this! I won't…

It is most important for a tutor to engage with the student, so that they will be more inclined to be attentive and take the lessons seriously. It is also neccesary to make the neccesary preperations required for the student, e.g background research for foreign topics/ or remodled questions, to suit the student's needs and allow for efficient…

As a tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. A tutor can provide the pathway of learning. The tutor should understand the position of his/her students. Significantly, the tutor helps to form a strong foundation which helps students to achieve the goals. Basically, teaching is an art. I prefer doing teaching in a simple way. Students can learn better if subjects material is divided into…

I think it is very important as a tutor to start a topic from its basic and build a strong idea of the subject material so that the student enjoys studying. I think the greatest gift a tutor can provide to a student is support. School can often be an isolating and intimidating experience, and often students, despite being remarkably talented, feel afraid to take risks and go beyond what is expected of them. A tutor can also make the learning experience far more rewarding and enjoyable. Students feel…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student become confident and independent in their learning. While improving grades is important, a great tutor should also teach students how to think critically, solve problems, and approach challenges with confidence. A tutor should be encouraging, patient, and genuinely invested in the…

Inside Lane Cove WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Georgia reviewed her recent NAPLAN paper to identify and discuss areas for improvement.

In Year 9, Tom focused on probability with single events and practiced constructing and interpreting linear graphs from algebraic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ruby tackled simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods, as well as exploring investments and loans in the context of credit cards.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly arrived without her test book, which limited review of past assessments and slowed feedback on algebra exam technique; as a tutor noted, "she needed reminders to set out all working clearly and avoid redoing calculations."

In Year 7 mathematics, one student hesitated to write down solutions, preferring mental calculations even when asked for full working. This habit left logic gaps that made it harder to spot where confusion with negatives crept in.

Meanwhile, a primary student twice missed submitting writing homework, so lesson time shifted from skill-building to catching up—momentum was lost before ideas could really take shape.

Recent Achievements

A Lane Cove West tutor noticed Harry, a Year 9 student, now lays out his answers systematically in maths, where he used to jumble steps and lose marks for working errors.

Georgia, who struggled with visualising three-dimensional objects last term, recently translated elevation drawings into accurate 3D shapes during her session without prompting.

In English, a senior student who was previously hesitant to accept feedback on essays has started actively rewriting topic sentences and openly asks for suggestions when revising her discursive writing pieces.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as West Chatswood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mowbray Public School.
