The relationship between the student and teacher must first also be easygoing so that the student feels…

Being both supportive and empathetic are important. Encouraging a student and not making a huge deal about mistakes while congratulating correct responses builds a student's self-confidence which makes them perform better overall and develop a liking for the subject. Also, being understanding when the student struggles to perform when facing more…

With my previous experience both as being a tutor and being tutored by someone else, I believe a tutor should pay a fundamental role in empowering students to take ownership of their learning. I think the most important thing a tutor should do is educate student such that they enjoy learning new content. To do this, a tutor must deliver his knowledge in an engaging, enthusiastic way. It is also important for a tutor to make sure that every student not only learnt and understand knowledge, but to master the skills related to the topic.…

I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. This allows them to enjoy their time at school and develop positive learning habits. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

I believe that the best tutors must empower students to believe they can learn anything; they celebrate small wins to make learning feel rewarding, not stressful. This helps them see the progress that they made, even if it's from small steps. Additionally, I believe that tutors must be able to build confidence, personalise learning, and inspire…

I believe that tutors should be able to offer a balance between practical and theoretical advice for students when teaching a subject. In my opinion, for a student to always be good at studying and getting good grades every time, the student has to master appropriate studying strategies. Hence, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student how to study "smartly" and be more productive. Moreover, in high school, I used to go to coaching centre…

Inside LansvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Lily revised expansion, simplification, and factorisation of algebraic equations and practised solving quadratic equations from class work.

Year 11 student Ahmad focused on financial mathematics by tackling credit, borrowing scenarios, and earning money calculations.

For Year 12, Sam worked through HSC-style questions involving probability concepts and advanced coordinate geometry using exam paper revision tasks.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, skipping written steps while using the quadratic formula led to confusion with negative signs—"he substituted too quickly and missed a minus."

For a Year 7 student, inconsistent homework completion meant formulas for volume and area weren't memorised; this caused hesitation during test revision.

Messy working in indices problems made error tracing difficult in senior years, especially under timed conditions.

During complex worded questions in Year 10, reliance on mental calculation rather than setting out logic clearly resulted in lost marks when revising past assessments.

These habits left students unsure where their errors crept in during independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Lansvale tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who now confidently asks for clarification on tricky quadratic equations, rather than skipping problems as she did earlier in the term.

Another high schooler has moved from hesitating over financial maths questions to accurately calculating compound interest and using taxation tables without prompting.

Meanwhile, a primary student surprised her tutor by recognising which index laws applied in harder problems and applying them rapidly—just weeks ago, she would second-guess herself on even basic indices.

Last session, she solved the most challenging question on indices and volume entirely unaided.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Whitlam Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lansvale East Public School.
