Communication, patience, understanding. Clearly explaining the topic with either simple or appropriate terms depending on the student's level. As someone who studied on three different continents (Europe, North America, and Australia) I can recognize different types of learners and I utilize it to reach the full potential of the students. The most important thing a tutor can do is to ignite a student's curiosity and passion for learning. When a student finds joy in the process, success naturally follows. All students are different, and they have different needs. Providing the right support is crucial in my opinion. Understanding where exactly the student needs help, and…

The tutor should have the knowledge of what they are teaching, as that would not cause any hindrance while the child is in the learning phase. The tutor should also be kind and attentive towards the children. I am very comfortable around children, and I tend to make them comfortable too. I also like to play with certain tips and tricks so that…

Be patient with the student when it comes to concepts they struggle with as well as adapting to their skills and ways of learning in order to optimize their efficiency and knowledge. Tutors should also be able to drill life skills into their students such as resilience in not giving up on a hard question. - adaptability in teaching style -…

I think understanding that every kid is different and special in their own way, and they have their own needs and methods of approaching problems is very important. Every tutor should try to personalise the tutor session based on the needs, learning pattern and pace, interests and goals of the children so that they can make the most out of it. I…

A tutor should always understand the level of understanding of a particular subject by a student, so that he/she can start teaching from the basics if necessary. I am people-friendly. I know English, Tamil, Chinese, and German, so I can speak in a way students can understand the topics clearly. Also, I am strong in my fundamentals, so I can teach…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empower them to become independent learners. I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. Efficient, personalised and great value. We had an awesome experience in 2022 and EzyMath have come to the party again this year with an equally good tutor!
Simon Rudd, Leichhardt

Inside LeichhardtTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Zoe focused on two-digit multiplication and basic short division, then practised converting improper fractions to mixed numerals and adding fractions with the same denominators.

In Year 7, Ethan worked through solving one- and two-step linear equations and revised Pythagoras' theorem using right-angled triangle problems.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lara strengthened her understanding of laws of indices by tackling index notation questions and reviewed fundamental trigonometry concepts including sine, cosine, and tangent ratios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Mathematics, one student's work on plotting coordinates was "a bit messy," making it harder to identify errors and slowing down corrections during lessons.

A Year 10 learner preparing for trigonometry assessments struggled to remember the SOH CAH TOA rule without written notes—she relied on prompts instead of independent recall.

Meanwhile, in a Year 6 session, confusion converting between square centimetres and square metres persisted; repeated mistakes were not always revisited, so misconceptions lingered into revision tasks.

During primary times tables review, incomplete daily practice meant non-calculator sections remained stressful rather than automatic.

Recent Achievements

A Leichhardt tutor noticed Makayla, a high school student, has started to independently identify which trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine, or tangent) to use—something she previously hesitated with unless prompted.

In another session, Hermione (Year 9) made a clear shift by slowing down and working more neatly after earlier lessons flagged her tendency for rushed errors; this time she completed all sums correctly without careless mistakes.

Meanwhile, Maya in Year 5 showed new persistence by tackling tricky multiplication problems on her own and only asking for hints when truly stuck, finishing an entire worksheet with minimal guidance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inner West Council Library and History Leichhardt Branch—or at your child's school (with permission), like Leichhardt Public School.
