I think the greatest gift a tutor can provide to a student is support. School can often be an isolating and intimidating experience, and often students, despite being remarkably talented, feel afraid to take risks and go beyond what is expected of them. A tutor can also make the learning experience far more rewarding and enjoyable. Students feel…

Encouraging unmotivated students and helping them increase their grade significantly. A tutor's job is to also ensure that a student is well prepared before any examination. I use different methods of communication and practice questions to ensure the student understands the topic. In some cases, i developed worksheets and mock exams to help…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build confidence in their own ability to learn. While improving grades is important, a good tutor should also encourage students to think independently, ask questions, and develop problem solving skills that will help them beyond the classroom. A tutor should also be patient,…

I believe the most important thing a tutor/teacher can do for their students is to help them discover their true potential, eradicate doubt and hone their abilities in what may otherwise seem an impossible task. As a tutor, I believe I can help my students overcome any challenge they face in their studies, by teaching concepts in a way that they…

Personally, when I was a student the most important effect of good teachers and tutors was regaining confidence in myself. They showed me that it was okay to fail, how to bounce back, and how to learn from my mistakes. Having a strong education is a wonderful thing, but having been through the whole K-12-Uni-Workforce pipeline by far the best…

I think the most important thing is to help the student to develop the approach of thinking on which the student can build up his/her knowledge and manage all the variations that will be encountered. This is especially true for Mathematics and science subjects. Another important thing that I can achieve with the student is to have a concrete…

I think an ideal tutor should teach to the student's strengths and minimise their weaknesses by helping them in their weak areas. It's also equally important to be compassionate and build rapport through empathy and effective communication. - I graduated from high school a few years ago, and I was my school topper consistently from year 3 to 12.…

According to me two most important principles in a tutor are patience and trust. Building trust makes the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes. Having patience also goes a long way in building that trust, so that the student can actually enjoy the learning process. I believe I can bring value to the role through my…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a comfortable and supportive environment where the student feels confident to ask questions and make mistakes. I think making students feel like they're being seen and heard is a really powerful thing, and to make clear that a tutor isn't just a fixed resource like a book or a video but someone you can interact with and learn from just from someone being there to guide you. I believe a tutor can impact student's lives by providing the foundation he needs for further studies. A student with a poor concept might some how pass but he will struggle in the future, or looses interest in that subject. Hence a tutor can strengthen that foundation, at the same time be a source of motivation and a be a big brother. My main…

Inside Liberty GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Alex revised trigonometric identities and tackled calculus problems involving differentiation and integration, focusing on using the chain rule with trig functions.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through logarithms and exponential differentiation as well as practiced applying log laws to various expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Emily focused on improving her understanding of fractions and decimals, working through visual examples to strengthen number sense.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, a student was noted to leave their working out scattered and disorganised when solving algebraic equations—"the page looked rushed, which made it tough to spot sign errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled with time management during calculus tasks; the focus on getting answers quickly led to incomplete steps and missed marks in integration questions.

In English (Year 10), draft essays were sometimes submitted late, limiting the chance for feedback and reworking arguments.

The need to memorise key formulas rather than rely on notes was also evident during trigonometry practice in Year 12.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Liberty Grove recently saw a Year 10 student move from guessing at problem-solving questions to clearly explaining their reasoning step by step, showing real growth in independence.

In senior high school, one student who used to confuse differentiation rules now recalls and applies all of them accurately when tackling calculus problems.

Another older student, previously overwhelmed by essay writing, has started breaking down thesis statements on their own and constructing them with ease.

Last week, a younger learner finished their times tables activity with barely any errors after struggling for weeks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Concord West Public School.
