In my opinion, it would primarily be the ability to understand that each student is different and thus needs guidance to cater to their own unique set of skills. I believe my strength would be my inquisitiveness for more knowledge and learning and an attitude to learn while being open to exchange knowldge on the…

One of the major thing a tutor can provide to its students is motivation to achieve their tasks. Personally I performed very well in school and college because of my tutor who used to teach me. He taught me that I am capable of soo anything if I want to do so. I have a positive attitude towards my students, specifically I have good verbal and…

All the students have unique learning methods so as a tutor it is essential that we take that into consideration and orient the classes in a way that is comprehensible and engaging for that child. The tutors should always be very patient and respectful of the child as no every child learns at the same pace. I believe that I am very patient and…

Help them enjoy study by making the learning tailored to their preferred style and making them achieve things they couldn’t before. Improve their grades to reach goals they have. Private attention and additional help on top of school allows them to learn better than they normally can. I’m patient, I’m caring, friendly, I don’t judge.…

Along with getting excellent academic results for the students, the most important things a tutor can do for the student is to prepare him/her for the lessons without extra stress and make learning process a smooth and memorable experience. A student shouldn't feel the compulsion to study extra hours i.e. tuition and should enjoy coming to the…

I consider comprehension and confidence in one's skills to be the most crucial thing a tutor should endeavour for their students to grasp. Once a student's comprehension level reaches a certain stage, their progress will be much faster and smoother. Whilst also their confidence becomes a fuel of reinforcement for their drive in achieving their…

The most important thing or a challenge for a tutor is to involve a student in a subject not just for it's technicality but for its application in real life. Therefore it's important to find the bridge between what you study and real life in not all but most cases to keep studies interesting. If not, find a funny way or create a situation that…

A tutor should understand the student's ability and capacity of learning. Then the tutor should teach the student in a particular way to make him understand the lesson in his unique way. To be supportive and assist in their learning, and help them find the best way to study I think i'm very encouraging when I teach and I also do my best to help students find the answers themselves instead of just giving them answers consistently. Firstly, being kind, patient and listening to the student matters the most. This is because not everyone is the same, not everyone has the same capacity to understand and grasp the concept. One student may understand it in a minute, whereas another may take 10. So its very important that the tutor is kind, patient and listens to the student.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is generate curiosity in his/her mind. The tutor is also expected to lead by example. Being a student myself, I know how students are curious about multiple aspects but don't ever question them because they think the question is stupid. Since this is a 1-on-1 tutorial, the tutor must give full attention to the student. Also to find ways to make sessions enjoyable but not to the point of sacrificing the time for teaching. And again to be patient so that the student can fully understand the topics being discussed. My best quality as a tutor would be my patience. I know a lot of…

A student looks up to a tutor for support and guidance. Hence, it is important for a tutor to be encouraging. A tutor must also be able to identify areas or misconception that requires remediation. At the same time, a tutor should not be spoon-feeding but provide sufficient guidance to allow the student to derive at the answer by himself. I am…

Inside LyndhurstTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jay worked on measurement skills and multiplying/dividing by multiples of 10, often using visual examples.

For Year 10, Chloe revised sine and cosine rule applications in trigonometry and practiced Pythagoras' theorem in three dimensions with guided problem sets.

In Year 11, Nathan tackled empirical formula calculations from molar ratios in chemistry and reviewed redox reactions by stepping through sample questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on matrix multiplication and trigonometry often left questions unfinished when stuck, as a tutor noted: needs to persist more with approaching problems and not give up too soon.

In Year 10 algebra sessions, skipping written steps meant sign errors in solving equations were hard to catch.

Another session revealed a Year 9 student forgetting to bring calculators or notes home, making it difficult to practice new skills independently.

Meanwhile, a primary student focusing only on times tables found that missing regular revision at home led to slower recall during lessons.

Recent Achievements

In Lyndhurst, a Year 10 student who used to stay quiet now actively asks for help when stuck on equations and applies what they've learned straight away, a big shift from earlier sessions.

In Year 12 Chemistry, another student recently researched independently using both their textbook and online sources before attempting questions—something they previously avoided without direct prompting.

A younger primary school student has begun tackling three-digit subtraction problems with fewer prompts and double-checks their own answers instead of waiting for the tutor's cue. Last session, they completed all three sums correctly on their own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hampton Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lyndhurst Primary School.
