From personal experience, I have had a few unfair and unsatisfactory experiences with tutors throughout my schooling journey. As a result, I have learnt from those experiences and structured my services in regards to having the student as the main focus. As a tutor, the most important thing I can do is explain and walk a student through unfamiliar…

Firstly, the most important thing that a tutor should do is build up confidence in their kids that they have the potential to achieve their goals and are destined for the best. This instantly boosts up the kids for striving for accuracy and their dreams. Secondly, a tutor should never be a demotivator in any manner. This is important as any…

The most important things I can do for a student, is to put myself in their shoes when teaching. Often some students take longer to understand, comprehend or apply the knowledge taught. It' so important to go at their pace, whilst challenging them as well, because there's nothing we can't achieve if we set our minds to it. It' important to simply…

I consider that a tutor should be a good teacher but also a good person. He should be able to communicate and transmit his passion to give the desire to learn. (I am a native french so I can also teach french). Firstly I would say that my experience is my biggest strength, my computer science school allows me a lot of flexibility so I am available…

I believe that a tutor should be able to build relationships with a student where the students are provided with an environment where they are heard and observed. I think this allows tutors to strategize methods in helping students progress, learn and succeed. This must be done with patience, constant assessment of student's progress, and…

A tutor can provide little tips and tricks to answering questions, especially in Math. Always be within reach, in terms of communication platforms, so that the student can clarify any doubts at any point in time. A tutor should also be flexible to the timings of the students yet not compromising on other students schedule. I am patient, clear…

I believe that making every session meaningful, productive but entertaining is key to learning. A tutor should make sure that the student is well-engaged in the session but still focussing on their weaknesses and strengths. A tutor should make a personalized learning experience for every student and build a relationship of trust with the student.…

I believe that listening to the student is among the most important things a tutor can do. It is imperative that the student feels comfortable to share concepts that they feel unfamiliar with, therefore building a relationship with them is crucial. Having a good understanding of the student's optimal way of learning is also beneficial to the…

According to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence and positive mindset in a student which can empower the student to take on challenges. Developing a love for learning also goes a long way, as a tutor teaches a subject which he likes he can encourage curiosity and passion for the subject in his students…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to get a proper understanding of the level of mathematical 'maturity' of a specific student, rather than just assuming a certain background knowledge. Once this is established, it's possible to get the core of what exactly a student is struggling with (usually a particular fundamental concept) and…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

The most important thing is trust that both tutor and student should have on each other. An ease of asking questions and making mistakes is another very important thing. A tutor can be a guiding light for students. Each student has their own way of absorbing the information that they are taught. This might not always be available to students in a large classroom setting. A good tutor recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of the students and guides them accordingly. I spent most of my adult life abroad as a…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. Inside LyntonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Raffy worked on identifying different triangles, finding unknown angles using the **angle sum of triangles**, and applying Pythagoras' theorem to solve for missing sides.

For Year 9, Lauren practised expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as tackling **linear and simultaneous equations** through guided problem sets.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jack focused on trigonometry by solving for unknown sides and angles using **sine and cosine rules**, incorporating real-world worded problems into practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student's maths work was often difficult to follow due to messy, unclear layout; as one tutor observed, "some of his working out was written in a clumsy way, making it hard to understand."

In Year 11, ongoing technical issues and a lack of organization—such as forgetting to charge devices or gather materials before online sessions—meant lesson time was lost troubleshooting rather than learning.

A senior student also showed visible drops in motivation and confidence after missing lessons due to illness, leading her to rely more on tutor prompts instead of attempting questions independently.

Recent Achievements

One Lynton tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach: after struggling to see how algebra connected to real problems, she started using phrases from past lessons out loud and even told her tutor she "enjoys math" for the first time.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student who used to wait passively now asks clarifying questions as soon as she feels unsure—something she never did before.

And with a younger student, there's been steady progress in independence; last week he completed most review questions independently, after months of needing constant prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blackwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clapham Primary School.
