The most important thing of being a tutor is to keep patience and be kind and generous with the student. The student might not understand a concept in a particular way, so it's important to know few other methods to teach them, so that it would help them understand the concepts better. The strength of mine is that , I can understand in what area a…

Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. Understanding the most effective way of learning for each student is also crucial. When I was…

For me, the most important part of tutoring is helping students build confidence while preparing for their exams. I also love going beyond the textbook, sharing life lessons, practical skills, and ways of thinking that help them grow both academically and personally. One of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to teach students across a wide age…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is recognise what, precisely, the student is struggling with and to tailor explanations of concepts in ways that the student will respond to. For example, a major conceptual hurdle for high school students can be learning about logarithms for the first time. Often the root of confusion…

Everything begins with building a relationship with the child/student and getting to know them as a person, what interests them inside and outside of school. I believe in my students and their ability to succeed academically and overall and I make this message clear. I tell them, on a regular basis, I believe in you! You can do this! I won't…

A tutor can help students to develop their skills so they can think out of the box. The tutor helps students to build their foundations. Most important, the tutor helps students to become a good human being. I am always open to new thoughts. I never discourage students from asking relevant questions. Tutors are just not there to help students with their students. Their most important role is to be friends and be able to guide their students in the right direction. If tutors become friends, the students listen and trust them more. Of course this does not mean that students can take tutors for a ride. As a tutor I am hardworking, diligent and…

I think the greatest gift a tutor can provide to a student is support. School can often be an isolating and intimidating experience, and often students, despite being remarkably talented, feel afraid to take risks and go beyond what is expected of them. A tutor can also make the learning experience far more rewarding and enjoyable. Students feel…

Inside Macquarie ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zara focused on place value and rounding to tens and hundreds, then practiced addition strategies for multi-digit numbers.

In Year 8, Daniel worked through surface area of cylinders, applying the formula in worded scenarios and reviewing volume calculations for a range of 3D shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily tackled trigonometric ratios with bearings and solved angles of elevation and depression questions using diagrams to visualise real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in algebra needed reminders to show working, especially when forming equations—needs to start independently form equation of question for which a revision test is scheduled for next class.

In Year 11, time management emerged as an obstacle during exam strategies; planning responses more efficiently was discussed after rushed answers cost marks.

For a Year 6 geometry assessment, "test score 18.5/40" reflected gaps in both content and exam confidence.

One Year 7 learner hesitated to attempt questions due to fear of mistakes, leading to less written practice and slower improvement each session.

Recent Achievements

A Macquarie Park tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for clarification, now actively seeks help when stuck on trigonometry problems—this shift has led her to solve more complex questions independently.

In another session, a Year 9 student who struggled with quadratic equations last term managed to work through several examples without errors and even identified areas he wanted extra practice in.

For a younger learner in Year 3, reading aloud became smoother; she now tackles unfamiliar words by sounding them out instead of skipping over them, finishing her first storybook without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as North Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beaumont Road Public School.
