The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is clear their doubts. Students who register for tutoring often have several doubts that need clearing up and explaining topics that they're confused with and clearing them up is the most vital part of the job to me. I have completed my HSC and I got good marks in the subjects I picked to…

Provide learning opportunities in a motivational manner. It is one thing to present a student with information and expect them to memorise it. But it is another thing to actually teach a student and develop their passion for the subject. I am an extremely patient person who is very considerate and approachable. What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is try to understand that each student is different and that the same study plan and method does not work for everyone. Different people learn in different ways, a tutor must try to understand each student and find ways to teach concepts in a way that is both fun and…

As I said, I think a positive self-concept about his abilities in Maths for example is important for a student. So one important thing for a tutor is to promote confidence and to praise a student for positive changes. And it is to encourage to do more. It's also important to focus on individual needs, so to analyse where very individual…

Tutors are just not there to help students with their students. Their most important role is to be friends and be able to guide their students in the right direction. If tutors become friends, the students listen and trust them more. Of course this does not mean that students can take tutors for a ride. As a tutor I am hardworking, diligent and…

Inside Macquarie ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zara focused on place value and rounding to tens and hundreds, then practiced addition strategies for multi-digit numbers.

In Year 8, Daniel worked through surface area of cylinders, applying the formula in worded scenarios and reviewing volume calculations for a range of 3D shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily tackled trigonometric ratios with bearings and solved angles of elevation and depression questions using diagrams to visualise real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in algebra needed reminders to show working, especially when forming equations—needs to start independently form equation of question for which a revision test is scheduled for next class.

In Year 11, time management emerged as an obstacle during exam strategies; planning responses more efficiently was discussed after rushed answers cost marks.

For a Year 6 geometry assessment, "test score 18.5/40" reflected gaps in both content and exam confidence.

One Year 7 learner hesitated to attempt questions due to fear of mistakes, leading to less written practice and slower improvement each session.

Recent Achievements

A Macquarie Park tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for clarification, now actively seeks help when stuck on trigonometry problems—this shift has led her to solve more complex questions independently.

In another session, a Year 9 student who struggled with quadratic equations last term managed to work through several examples without errors and even identified areas he wanted extra practice in.

For a younger learner in Year 3, reading aloud became smoother; she now tackles unfamiliar words by sounding them out instead of skipping over them, finishing her first storybook without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as North Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beaumont Road Public School.
