Similar to my strengths, I think a tutor needs to be flexible and patient with any and every student that they teach. A stubborn tutor that doesn't try to adapt to each student's personal needs or preferences won't be effective in their teaching, and a similar result follows for an impatient tutor. Additionally, any tutor should have a large bank…

Not only to help them with academics as the main goal of a tutor, but also to be a friend and have positive influence on them. Attitude can actually make the difference. Strength: Communication. Not only tutoring, all jobs need effective communication. I believe I can make the students understand, I have tutored before and the students really…

I believe one of the most important things for a tutor is to give unlimited support to their students, answering their questions properly and patiently both in and out of class. what's more, a tutor should design their class for students and always get well-prepared. Except from these, a good tutor is also expect to be easily approachable and…

A tutor can help shape the future of a child by helping them in studies and boosting their confidence. They not only help them in their homework but also help them in expanding their knowledge in the subject which might give them an extra edge towards others. In a longer run a right tutor can ignite new ideas for the future and help carve a path…

I believe that the two most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to help them gain a passion for their studies, and to teach them to apply their study skills to all of their subjects. I think that these two factors can really help students succeed with school and allow them to reach their full potential elsewhere in life. One of…

I think a tutor must be understanding and helpful. Finding innovative ways to teach and repeat the same concept. If the teacher teaches the student something and I as the tutor say the same thing, there is no understanding that would be gained. It is important to understand exactly what the student is not clear or sure about and clear those doubts…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create a safe and supportive learning space. Knowing a student and modelling his learning plan accordingly addressing his concerns. Give positive messages. Students require somebody to encourage them in a genuine manner, to make them understand that it’s ok to fail sometimes but worth trying. Coordinated effort amongst parents and tutors is completely vital to a student’s prosperity.…

I think the three most important things a tutor can do for their student is: 1. Get them interested and motivated about the subject. By getting them to enjoy the subject, they are more open to process and remember information. This will also translate to improvement in classes in school and their own study. 2. Relieve stress and worries. I…

The most important thing a tutor can do is understand a student. Tutoring without understanding the student is similar to filling a closed bottle, It's of no use. So First understand the student, understand everyone is unique and everyone has a different pace to grab the things. To deliver things in the way that they need will eventually decrease…

I believe that a tutor must be flexible and patient, as all students' needs are different. The tutor should not only help the student to understand their coursework, but also help them to implement their own study plans and methods, so…

Always be as clear with them as possible, and be ready for whatever questions they might have for you. Inside Malvern EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alex focused on solving linear equations with pro-numerals on both sides and expanding brackets using the BIDMAS order of operations.

For Year 9, Mia practised graphing straight lines by solving for 'y', calculating gradients, and identifying x- and y-intercepts from equations.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Phoebe worked through finding the mean, median, and mode for grouped data to prepare for her upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

Device readiness and organisation continue to impact progress. In one recent Year 10 session, her uncharged laptop meant lost access to schoolwork—limiting revision options and causing frustration.

"Her organisational methods are ineffective and unsustainable," noted a tutor after another lesson; worksheets were scattered and notes hard to locate, slowing review of algebra topics.

In VCE Maths, over-reliance on the calculator appeared: she defaulted to it for basic quadratic problems rather than practicing manual techniques.

These moments left her less able to check answers independently or recall strategies under test conditions, sometimes leading to avoidable confusion in multi-step worded questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Malvern East noticed that a Year 10 student who used to rely heavily on hints during algebra is now independently recalling the correct formulas and finishing problem sets without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to tackle new topics now openly volunteers to attempt trigonometry questions first—showing real initiative compared to her earlier reluctance.

At primary level, one student who once struggled with focus has begun reviewing last week's maths concepts on her own before sessions, leading to more confident participation and quicker recall when prompted by the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Phoenix Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like De La Salle College - Holy Eucharist Campus.
