I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only help them understand the lessons, but assist them in the development of individual thought. My patience is extensive as I believe that the longer the struggle, the better the reward. However, I also believe that being able to communicate in various difference ways in…

Being patient in allowing students to fully grasp a topic or idea before proceeding. Often students have topics and subjects that have been neglected by the schooling system, and sometimes it is necessary to move backward before we go forward. I have been a student myself for 13 years and have an acute understanding of what assists myself and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide guidance and navigate them through the complex aspects of learning. It\'s crucial for me to not only impart knowledge but also to help students understand challenging concepts. This involves breaking down complex topics into manageable pieces, offering clear explanations, and…

Is to provide support, as I student I know it gets hard to understand what teachers are trying to say. A tutor is meant to simplify what is being taught in class and helping out the student to be prepared for their future adventures in an academic level. I am a talkative and hardworking person. The most important thing tutors can do is support their students which includes adapting lessons to individual learning styles and needs. Along with pinpointing any gaps in knowledge, and help the students understand those areas. Along with listening to them, about what things they struggle with and what they’re already good at. My strengths…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide them with a mentally safe and open environment, in which they feel no question or form of validation is undeserving. Students are generally quick learners and tutors must consider this and always teach the correct thing and refrain from making silly mistakes as it may get…

I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

I truly believe this will be actively listening and giving plenty of feedback. A good tutor will always make sure that the student really understands the concept and knows how to effectively teach the student in a way that works for them. A tutor must adapt their teaching style depending on the behaviours and learning style of the student to assist them in learning. A tutor must also make the subject engaging but focussed to discipline and improve the student's passion. Additionally, a tutor must be observant and have critical thinking to analyse exactly where a student struggles…

Inside MintoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student John practised calculating perimeters of various shapes and worked on estimating and converting measurements between units like metres and centimetres.

In Year 8, Lachlan tackled improper and proper fractions as well as addition and subtraction problems, using visual models where helpful.

For Year 11, Leon focused on financial mathematics by working through textbook questions involving simple and compound interest calculations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly skipped writing out working in algebra and graphing tasks, which caused the same sign errors to pop up each time—especially when solving for x and y.

In Year 11 trigonometry, a rushed approach led to missing important details, so homework was set to reinforce systematic question breakdown.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student's handwriting made it difficult for her to review mistakes or show her reasoning clearly in spelling and maths tests.

One younger learner avoided written work during reading practice, hesitating to try new words aloud for fear of making errors—a hesitation that lingered even after encouragement.

Recent Achievements

One Minto tutor noticed a big shift with Leon, a high school student who used to hesitate when tackling graphing questions—now he identifies equations and draws accurate graphs on his own, even explaining where functions increase or decrease.

Vasati, also in high school, has started converting tricky word problems into mathematical steps without needing prompts, which had been a stumbling block earlier for her earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, in Year 3 reading sessions, one student who previously guessed at unfamiliar words now sounds them out and tries spelling before asking for help—a change from her old habit of waiting for answers.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Minto Public School.
