In my opinion, the most important things that a biology tutor can do for a student would be explaining concepts to them in ways that the individual student can understand as well as aiding them in memorisation and application of the concept tutored. Moreover, I strongly believe that it is extremely important for a tutor to leave a student without…

At the end of the day to make them feel comfortable with anything. We are all learning and growing and i want to able able to help guide the student. A tutor's traditional role is to deliver a concept to a student. However I believe that they also work behind the scenes to raise a student's confidence and enjoyment in a subject. Sometimes it's the tutor that makes or breaks a student's interest and motivation to learn. I have recently just finished schooling so I am very knowledgeable of the…

The most important thing that a biology tutor can do for a student is to provide the student with the tools to study and pass their assessments. The main goal for any tutor should be to help get the student to the point at which they no longer require a tutor. I am able to explain information in more than one way, and adapt my teaching methods to…

Inside MooraboolTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Maya worked on multiplying and dividing fractions as well as linking fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Year 10 student Daniel focused on reviewing algebraic skills and practiced multiplying and dividing algebraic fractions.

Meanwhile, VCE Methods Unit 1 student Alex explored families of cubic polynomial functions and applied these concepts to real-world scenarios using polynomial function applications.

Recent Challenges

A common process challenge noted across both Year 7 and Year 10 sessions is not carefully reading questions before answering.

For example, during a recent Year 7 lesson, "Hudson forgot to read specific questions properly," leading to confusion when converting units.

In a Year 10 algebra session, Zack commented that he was "a little confused with certain questions" and sometimes zoned out or lost focus mid-task. This habit of skimming or rushing through instructions resulted in repeated errors or missed steps—extra time then went into clarifying what the question actually required rather than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Moorabool tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student, Zack, who used to avoid asking for help but now regularly pauses mid-question to clarify steps, especially in algebra and scientific notation—something he never did before.

In Year 11, Aiden has begun breaking down polynomial and probability questions independently on paper, often stopping himself to check against textbook examples if unsure, showing much more self-reliance than earlier in the year.

Meanwhile, Hudson (Year 8) has started talking through his reasoning out loud during fraction problems rather than guessing quietly, and this new habit helped him spot and fix errors in his last set of homework without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corio Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kardinia International College - Kardinia Grove Campus.
