Moreover, I strongly believe that it is extremely important for a tutor to leave a student without…

A tutor's traditional role is to deliver a concept to a student. However I believe that they also work behind the scenes to raise a student's confidence and enjoyment in a subject. Sometimes it's the tutor that makes or breaks a student's interest and motivation to learn. I have recently just finished schooling so I am very knowledgeable of the…

Personally for me, the teachers at school never went into what you really need to succeed in the HSC, and being one student in a class of 30 meant most times your questions were left unanswered. Having being tutored, having someone available to ask questions that I did not understand was very helpful throughout my schooling career, and I hope to…

Inside CorioTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Jack focused on calculating mean, median, and mode as well as creating scatter plots to represent data visually.

In Year 10, Emily worked through solving quadratic equations by both factorising and completing the square, with practice applying these methods to worded problems.

For Year 11, Tom explored trigonometric ratios in 3D contexts and tackled questions involving angles of elevation and depression using diagrams for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student working on algebra needed reminders to plan a process before jumping into equations, which sometimes led to confusion in multi-step problems.

In Year 11, the use of calculators for graphing was relied upon without practicing manual sketching, making it harder to interpret results independently.

A Year 8 student avoided attempting worded questions unless prompted, missing out on strategies for translating information into diagrams.

During a VCE-level session, time spent re-reading instructions reflected uncertainty with interpreting probability scenarios—this slowed down progress and left less room for reviewing feedback together.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Corio recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to guess at simultaneous equations now confidently sets up the elimination steps herself, even double-checking her work without prompting.

In a senior maths session, another high schooler who struggled with bearings and trigonometry last term has started using her calculator independently to solve multistep worded problems—she tackled three bearing questions solo this week after initially needing lots of guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who often hesitated before answering is now eager to attempt every practice question out loud, showing real initiative during sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corio Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Francis Xavier School.
