Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. And that is okay, so as a tutor, I would want to see how they learn best, and help them to enjoy and achieve in…

Not only is knowing the content extremely important, but the way tutors teach the content is more important. Every student has their own needs, and a tutor must recognise that some teaching strategies might work for some but not work for others. My strengths is my teaching style. I believe my ability to connect with the student allows the student…

Going on from my previous response, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to obviously listen to the needs and adapt to the students' strenghts and weaknesses. This means with more experience, and I am hopeful to gain alot of experience with commerical tutoring here at Ezymath, I will be able to hone my own teaching skills and…

I believe each student has a set goal in their minds. Therefore, the most important thing that I think I can do for a student, is to make sure they reach their desired goal and preferably even surpass it. This will teach them that they can achieve anything as long as they put in the work and come in with the right attitude. I am very attentive and…

A tutor should treat every students equally. Motivate slow learners and help them improve their learning. Being supportive and patient because it can be difficult for a tutor to see how hard the high school level maths can be for the student. Tutors need to remember how they did when they did the same maths years ago for their HSC/school and how difficult it was back then as opposed to how simple it seems now. As a maths tutor, I understand how…

To be able to enable to student to think, and answer hard questions when all else has failed. I think a tutor can give a student confidence, that a student doesn't need to be intimidated by a STEM class. The general attitude that these subject are 'too hard' or that a student 'will never use these skills again' sets up bright students for failure before they even set foot in a classroom. The most important thing a tutor can do is boost a…

Inside MoorookaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie worked on adding and subtracting fractions, as well as rounding decimals using practical examples.

In Year 8, Lily focused on algebraic equations and interpreting number planes, practicing with diagrams to build understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jacob revised compound interest problems through recurrence relations and applied them to real-life loan scenarios for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often struggled to stay focused during lessons, particularly at the start; as one tutor noted, "he had a very difficult time focussing during this session," which meant he needed more guidance and repeated explanations in basic fractions and decimals work.

In contrast, a senior student (Year 11) left working out incomplete when tackling square roots and complex equations—sometimes forgetting materials or skipping steps—so errors weren't easily spotted.

When it came to applying concepts from examples to exercises in higher-level maths, confidence faltered and progress slowed, especially if previous methods hadn't been retained.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moorooka noticed that one Year 9 student, who used to get stuck on fraction problems, now multiplies and divides fractions with only a quick prompt, even tackling decimal questions independently.

In Year 11 maths, another student has gone from hesitating on algebra to attempting exam-style questions solo—he recently completed a full module of problem-solving tasks without needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised their tutor by recalling previously tricky map skills from memory and confidently locating places during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Moorooka State School.
