Although my goal is to see them be at the top of their class, it is more important to see improvements in their tutor lessons and use the knowledge I give them at school to refine their skills I am very easy going and I have a lot of patience. So I am good with kids that are struggling to understand. I use the 4 predominant learning styles:…

Make learning enjoyable. the last thing I want as a tutor is a student dreading doing their work. If I can push them to find satisfaction and fun out of learning then I feel I have succeeded. I believe I have an alternative perspective on most topics and can therefore explain concepts to students who may not grasp it through their teachers…

Build their confidence and show them that they can exprience success. So many students who struggle think something is wrong with them, however some students just need more time to learn and more practise with certain concepts. Showing many ways to work out answers and to learn is important too because no two students are the same. I am…

Jade has been great. She is engaging and made the mathematical concepts far easier for Freja to understand. Freja is enjoying her sessions and feels far more confident in her mathematics journey. We look forward to an ongoing tutoring relationship with Jade.

Inside Mount WarrigalTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Molly focused on proportional relationships in mathematics, particularly converting between km/hr and m/s using constants of proportionality, and also checked her understanding of science topics like magnetism and the structure of atoms.

In Year 10, Olivia revised for an assessment by working through complex questions involving surface area, volume, and probability, then practiced harder algebra problems with equations involving fractions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Grace covered compound interest calculations in financial maths and reviewed syllabus content including tax and wages as applied to real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, she needs to write down every step of working out to limit mistakes, as one tutor observed; skipping this made it hard to spot sign errors or revise past questions.

In Year 11 trigonometry, incomplete annotation and unclear layout meant she sometimes referred back to the wrong numbers or equations mid-problem, slowing her progress.

A recurring pattern across multiple years: hesitation in making attempts on unfamiliar problems led to lost time during exams, especially under stress.

After missing school due to illness, gaps in fundamental skills resurfaced during revision, leaving her uncertain even with calculator-supported work.

Recent Achievements

One Mount Warrigal tutoring session saw a Year 11 student who previously struggled with solving equations involving fractions now working through them much more confidently and with far fewer errors.

Another high schooler, after weeks of hesitating to ask questions, has begun pinpointing where she's unsure in class and bringing those topics directly to her tutor—something she never did before.

In a Year 5 session, a student who used to skip steps in maths problems is now setting out her working neatly and double-checking answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warilla Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Warrigal Public School.
