A tutor is a guide to show the right path. Students might stumble a lot, but tutor should hold him up, stand by him and show the right direction. Never giving up on a student, looking for opportunities to advance their skill is what a tutor should always do. I try to explain things from the student's perspective. For example, a gamer might…

The most important thing for a tutor to do to a student is to be able to connect with them on a level that allows them to understand the content. Not being able to form a connection with the student makes the learning process tough. It is important to find an approach that enables the student to succeed. As a tutor, I am able to connect with the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being prepared. I have had 1-1 Spanish tutoring in the past, and every week my tutor would arrive prepared with documents and interactive lessons, which were fundamental in enriching my learning of the subject and making the sessions more enjoyable. Additionally, the tutor needs to maintain…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure that the child fully understands the lesson, and finds purpose in it. The student should not only study it because it is a requirement, but because they find it interesting, This I believe is a very crucial task for tutors. If a child is passionate about a subject, they will automatically study…

If it's a correct match of a student and a teacher, then definitely a tutor can change the overall personality of his student and in turn learn from him as well. It's not only about grades and positions but about life changing lessons that a tutor can give to his students. I am dedicated and true to my students, and according to me this is the…

A tutor is a guide who would be able to give personal learning experience to students which they might not be able to get during a school class. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to imagine herself in the shoes of student and then make learning process easier. Gaining the student's trust and then making student feel…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show the student that through perseverance they can be good at the subject, and to appreciate the subject's content for what it is. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student believe in themselves. When students feel supported and not judged, they are much more willing to ask questions and try again when something feels hard. It is also important to guide them rather than just give answers. A good tutor helps students understand how to think through…

Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. In this case, it is important for the tutor to encourage students and create a supportive learning environment in a way that helps the student see their progress. The most important thing a tutor can do is to ignite a student's curiosity and passion for learning. When a student finds joy in the process, success naturally follows. I believe it is extremely important for a tutor to have similar hobbies or experiences to the student so that the student feels comfortable and safe by taking out the power balance many often feel between their tutor or teacher. This also helps as content taught in our sessions will flow better, and create more engagement from the student. Having…

Inside NaremburnTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Nick focused on identifying outliers and calculating standard deviation in data sets, as well as analysing box-plot graphs.

In Year 10, Emily worked through quadratic equations—solving by factorising and graphing parabolas—and also practised simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Olivia tackled logarithms, including laws of logarithms and their application to polynomials, along with some targeted test revision ahead of her upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's graphing work was noted as "messy," making it harder to spot calculation errors or follow their reasoning under test conditions.

For a senior student tackling statistics, over-reliance on written notes during trigonometry practice limited confidence when formulas were not provided—"relies on notes to complete the questions."

Meanwhile, in Year 11 English, a reluctance to write linking sentences led to repeated arguments rather than clear analysis; as observed: "he merely rewrote the question into a vague answer without incorporating explanations."

In each case, clarity and independent working impacted performance in both maths and English tasks.

Recent Achievements

In high school maths, George has moved from needing help with quadratics to independently tackling the most difficult test-style questions, even handling extension problems that previously caused confusion.

Another student, Lilian, used to rely on step-by-step support for equations but now works through multi-step algebraic questions without guidance and is starting to manipulate both sides of equations confidently.

Meanwhile, Nick in Year 7 English shifted from basic paragraph writing to crafting two full PEEL paragraphs using evidence and thoughtful analysis after initially struggling to structure his ideas.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Naremburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like SHORE - Sydney Church of England Preparatory School, Northbridge.
