I think that these 3 things are a must : Work on Student’s strengths. Look for students interests , so we can connect them to the contents being thought. Constant feedback I have good rapport with students , and I firmly believe that all starts with connection, so students can feel at ease. Adaptability is key because with individual…

I think one of the most improtant things is to be a good listener and have a good understanding with your student so that he/she can freely ask questions or share any problems they are facing. Being honest with the student also plays a very important role as they can know you cant alwyas be perfect and its okay to make mistakes! I can assess the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with individual assistance that they lack in regular school time, and personal attention, ensuring they understand key concepts. My explanatory skills and patience are strengths as a tutor. This enables me to make clear concepts and theories, which is especially crucial to…

I believe it is extremely important for a tutor to have similar hobbies or experiences to the student so that the student feels comfortable and safe by taking out the power balance many often feel between their tutor or teacher. This also helps as content taught in our sessions will flow better, and create more engagement from the student. Having…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to instill confidence and inspire a student's curiosity for the subject. This comes from clear explanations in class, well-prepared lessons and patience from a tutor so that students can learn and gain confidence in a subject at their own pace. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel safe making mistakes and asking questions. I think It's important to build understanding, not just give answers, and to help students develop confidence and independent learning skills they can use on their own. I'm patient and good at breaking complex ideas into simple steps. I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is listen. It is very important to be tuned in to how your student is doing and how they feel about their work. If the work is way too hard or way too easy, not as much progress will be seen. To help the students as best as possible, you must understand their current level, what they want or need to…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop a proper understanding of the student's current abilities and learning style. Through this understanding, I believe I am able to properly connect to the student and help them learn at a pace and style that is well suited to their needs. This means the student not only…

Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. Understanding the most effective way of learning for each student is also crucial. When I was…

Ensuring that they grasp the knowledge taught is the most crucial thing for me. If they are able to teach it to others, I feel that I have done my job as a tutor. I believe a tutor should always be reliable, punctual, patient, kind, and supportive - as this creates a safe learning environment for all students. Inside NaremburnTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Nick focused on identifying outliers and calculating standard deviation in data sets, as well as analysing box-plot graphs.

In Year 10, Emily worked through quadratic equations—solving by factorising and graphing parabolas—and also practised simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Olivia tackled logarithms, including laws of logarithms and their application to polynomials, along with some targeted test revision ahead of her upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's graphing work was noted as "messy," making it harder to spot calculation errors or follow their reasoning under test conditions.

For a senior student tackling statistics, over-reliance on written notes during trigonometry practice limited confidence when formulas were not provided—"relies on notes to complete the questions."

Meanwhile, in Year 11 English, a reluctance to write linking sentences led to repeated arguments rather than clear analysis; as observed: "he merely rewrote the question into a vague answer without incorporating explanations."

In each case, clarity and independent working impacted performance in both maths and English tasks.

Recent Achievements

In high school maths, George has moved from needing help with quadratics to independently tackling the most difficult test-style questions, even handling extension problems that previously caused confusion.

Another student, Lilian, used to rely on step-by-step support for equations but now works through multi-step algebraic questions without guidance and is starting to manipulate both sides of equations confidently.

Meanwhile, Nick in Year 7 English shifted from basic paragraph writing to crafting two full PEEL paragraphs using evidence and thoughtful analysis after initially struggling to structure his ideas.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Naremburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like SHORE - Sydney Church of England Preparatory School, Northbridge.
