The two most important things as a tutor are: Encouragement: To constantly reaffirm to the child they can do something even when struggling and to make them feel accomplished when completing a task they were previously bad at. Understanding The Concept: I believe one of the key things that distinguish tutors is if they explain…

Other than helping the student achieve their personal goals, It's also important to ensure that they develop a love for learning and instill a sense of discipline and responsibility. Everybody learns differently and I feel that I am able to understand and adapt my teaching style to better suit the students needs rather than force them to adapt to…

I believe having a tutor who is there for you can make a real difference to your study mentality as a student. I personally found great improvement after taking physics tutoring, and went from hating the subject to it being my passion. I am a clear, capable communicator with strong critical thinking skills, equipping me with the toolkit for…

Tutoring requires a great deal of patience and empathy, as students may struggle with difficult concepts or lack confidence in their abilities. A great tutor is able to create a supportive environment for the student. A tutor should also be flexible and be able to adapt to different teaching styles depending on the individual needs of different…

See previous application. In my opinion, the best tutor would encourage a student to never give up, even if the topic is hard to understand, but to go always a bit beyond what is required. See previous application. I would say I am good in explaining things visually. I have a passion to share the things I am fascinated about when it comes to…

They can act as a guide, a friend and someone to ask any sort of question to. In a young student's life, a great tutor can be a role model to help establish good habits and values. I am methodical, and believe that what you get out of school, and life in general, is how much work you put into what you do. I ensure to keep a student busy with…

It's the capacity to come up with new approaches to assist your kids in learning. Students learn in different ways and at varying speeds. As a student, I expect my teachers to explain things in a way that I can grasp. Unlike my university instructors, who simply read the slides and call it a class. NO! I don't teach that manner, and I don't…

Few viable things which a tutor can do to help the students are: a) Deliver to them motivational thoughts and constantly encouraging them to do well. b) Critically thinking about any difficulty which might pose a hurdle in the pathway of student's learning and bring-forth ways to mitigate it. As I have mentioned previously, connecting with the student is a very important task. It has been a good experience so far.
Dillon, Kellyville

Inside North KellyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Kush practised multiplication facts for 0, 1, and 2 times tables alongside addition and subtraction with two- and three-digit numbers, also working on spelling and sentence writing through dictation exercises.

Year 9 student Nelly focused on simplifying algebraic expressions using index laws and negative coefficients, as well as calculating the surface area of cylinders and cones by applying geometric formulas.

For Year 12, Bertina tackled advanced probability density function questions from past trial papers and reviewed mathematical induction problems to prepare for her HSC exams.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student frequently skipped steps when graphing modified functions and tackling "prove" questions—"he got to conclusions too quickly, skipping needed steps," as one tutor noted. This habit left small errors hidden until the end, making revision inefficient.

In Year 9 algebra lessons, incomplete homework meant the basics weren't consolidated between sessions; this showed in class when a question's method was forgotten mid-way.

A primary student hesitated to attempt double-digit addition independently, often guessing or looking for confirmation rather than working through mistakes—during dictation tasks, he covered his work to check spelling instead of writing confidently.

Recent Achievements

One North Kellyville tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask for help now openly voices her questions about negative angles, which has helped her clear up confusion faster.

Another high schooler made a noticeable shift by independently working through past trial papers and managing to complete more of the difficult calculus and sequences questions without prompting—a big change from relying on hints last term.

In primary, Kush used to pause or check for approval before answering addition problems but is now tackling mixed operation worded maths questions on his own and confidently explaining how he reached each answer.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vinegar Hill Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like North Kellyville Public School.
