I think the most important thing a tutor can do is learnt how each individual student learns and be able to deliver information in a way they can understand. I believe my main strength as a tutor is that I am able to reexplain a topic in a multitude of ways depending on how a student is able to process…

One of the most important things for me would be the tutor's ability to listen and understand a student's query patiently, as it influences how the same content can be tailored differently for a better understanding of the individual. Also, the ability to adequately motivate a topic helps students develop a higher interest and enjoy what they…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is to make the content understandable rather than just helping to memorise it. But also to normalise mistakes and to assert the importance of educated guessing. Any student can learn faster by giving something a go rather than waiting until they are certain. I believe I can explain and break down…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to support them without judgement. Whether that support comes in smaller forms of teaching students concepts they may struggle with or encouraging students to not give up. As a tutor I think my greatest strengths are bringing in a passion and enjoyment for the subjects I tutor and…

The most important thing to me is the ability of a tutor to care for and listen to a student. The needs of a students is usually known by the student and is always important to not assume what the student needs but pay attention and listen to them. My strengths include being patient and altering my teaching style to suit the learning style of a…

I believe that creating a supportive learning environment is the most important factor. It's not just about helping them get the right answers, but also feeling capable and motivated in studing. A good tutor should provide consistent and patient guidance so that learning becomes less stressful. I'm patient and have the ability to explain concepts…

I see students as a clay model, which consists of different minerals and when it is subjected to appropriate pressure and temperature together with proper guidance and methods, it converts into a masterpiece ceramic. Tutor can be personal and professional assistant for the student and help them learn the difficult subjects in school. Also help them pass through difficult times. Some students may find it hard to grasp certain subjects in school and as such they might feel left out and depressed. Tutors are to help them and avoid such distressing situation.…

I would consider the most important thing a tutor could do, would be to teach their student more than they knew to begin with. It's a very simple statement, but it gets to the heart of the matter I feel. All the methods a tutor uses should be geared towards helping the student learn something, and have them understand and remember what they've…

To ensure that the student understands everything fully. That is what a tutor is for, and no concept or idea should be left unturned. Everything should be thoroughly explored until full understanding has been achieved. I am an extremely patient person who will spend as long as required to explain a concept or idea. I also use down-to-earth…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to provide ongoing support and encouragement. This approach empowers tutors, as it allows them to build a better connection with their students and instill confidence in their abilities,…

The most important thing a tutor can do is teach students *how* to learn. By helping them develop strategies and habits that build confidence in their own abilities, we give them the tools to succeed independently - beyond our own sessions. In my view, teacher is the most important person for a student after their parents. School level students spend more time with their teachers than with their parents. Inside O'ConnorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Evie practised times tables she found challenging and completed class worksheets on fractions, perimeters, and multiplication.

Year 8 student Lara focused on converting between percentages, decimals, and fractions, as well as tackling algebraic equations from her recent assignments.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Owen worked through textbook problems involving probability and index laws (including surds), ensuring a strong grasp of both foundational skills and more advanced topics.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student missed key marks on a maths exam due to "test/exam sitting skills," such as not allocating enough time per question. As a tutor noted, "he solved problems he'd already gotten wrong in the test, but timing cost him."

In Year 8 algebra, skipping written steps led to confusion with negatives and sign errors—this was especially clear when simplifying or rearranging equations.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner doubted her answers even when correct; hesitation meant she rarely shared her thinking aloud.

During a challenging worded problem in Year 4, pausing out of overwhelm caused her to lose track of strategy mid-solution.

Recent Achievements

One O'Connor tutor noticed a big shift with Lara in Year 10, who used to freeze on multi-step worded percentage problems but now works through them methodically and even scored 13 out of 14 on her exam.

Owen, just starting Year 11, previously struggled to link experimental results to mathematical analysis in physics; after some focused sessions, he's confidently deriving the data needed for his lab report without extra prompting.

Meanwhile, Mackenzie in Year 7 made a noticeable leap with index laws—despite never learning them before, she picked up each rule quickly and started solving questions independently by the end of the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dickson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Turner School.
