Addressing their issues kindly, making sure to not dismiss them or make them feel incapable. Fostering and instilling a resilient approach to learning through kindness and reassurance, which leads to a love for learning, is the foundational principle which I believe that tutors should primarily focus on, as it precedes everything else. -…

The most valuable role of a tutor is to build strong fundamentals, teach effective problem-solving strategies, and instil lasting confidence. A tutor’s purpose is not to create dependence, but to empower students to think independently and perform under exam conditions. Beyond mastering content, a great tutor helps students cultivate discipline,…

The most important things a tutor can do include being patient with the student. Each student is unique and may be fast or slow in adapting to unfamiliar concepts and a key skill necessary is to be able to account for these disparities and change pace of learning in accordance to the individual students needs’. Additionally, a tutor can also try…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be a friend who will be patient and understanding. This helps the student relax and feel more comfortable during the tuition and so be able to learn better and absorb more information, going away with more. I think that my strength is being able to explain the content such that it can be understood…

Tutoring is a noble occupation. My experience with the previous tutoring has taught me many things that can be really important for a student. Not every child is able to cope with his/her studies and routine. Being a student of Psychology, I prefer encouraging and motivating them to do better each day. Some students tend to trigger their fear of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them the confidence to excel independently, without them, following the guidance they provide. I believe I am friendly, approachable and can teach in a way that is simple for the student to understand. I also see myself as honest and reliable, allowing students and parents alike to…

It is important for a tutor to be knowledgeable in their content and pass this onto their student in a manner that is easy to understand. I also believe that it is important to get to know the specific strengths and weaknesses of their student so that they can help to turn the weaknesses into strengths, as well as reinforcing the strengths.…

Equally important is giving students the confidence to tackle the subject area they wish to improve. Inside OxenfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jack focused on solving equations for lines, finding gradients, and determining x- and y-intercepts using worked examples.

For Year 10, Olivia practised rearranging different forms of linear equations and revisited how to find specific x and y values from given graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Sam developed skills in working with integers and plotting points accurately on an axis through targeted exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, messy written layout when rearranging equations or plotting graphs often made it hard to spot calculation errors—one note said, "layout when working out" was a clear obstacle.

A Year 11 student struggled with planning responses for assessments, leaving answers underdeveloped and missing marks: "need to start writing for assessment."

For Year 9, skipping over worded questions in revision meant weaker problem-solving confidence during practice tests.

In the moment, untidy work and avoiding tougher question types led to more time spent correcting mistakes than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Oxenford tutor noticed a high school student who previously made small mistakes when solving equations is now catching those errors and finishing all calculations independently.

Another win: a Year 9 student, who used to sit quietly even when confused, started telling the tutor exactly when she didn't understand something—making it much easier to address tricky concepts right away.

In primary, one younger student who was often passive at the start of lessons recently came in organised and ready to ask questions she'd prepared herself before the session began.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nerang Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Oxenford State School.
