And it's understandable. It can be challenging to connect the concepts to real-life, see how it all relates to their day-to-day. When they're struggling, students tend to give up easily and at some point, they stop trying altogether.
If your child doesn't catch on right away, or maybe they consider chemistry a complete waste of time, it can be hard to convince them otherwise. What we've found is that students react better when it comes from someone who they can relate to.
They react to mentors, someone closer to their age, who shares the same experience. That's why tutors are in a unique position to help a student grow.
That's why great tutoring can make such a big difference.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Despite being sick in a few lessons, I loved the way David automatically talked aloud and back-checked without prompting. David also showed a keen understanding of percentages, avoiding lazy thinking and rule dependence.
My opinion is that Josh needs to be prepared to work hard at maths in the next few years. It's not going to be effortless anymore like Primary maths and the students who see it as effort and are prepared to put in that effort are the ones who succeed.
As expected there are a lot of problem areas, and gaps, particularly in the basics such as dealing with multiple operations, and breaking down complex problems. These are however fairly quickly improving. Bigger problem areas, such as Algebra are taking a little more work, however the concepts seem to be sinking in, and remembering where to start is one of the biggest issues.

We started yesterday and Dylan and Erin both seemed happy and got along quite nicely.
Boris is great, Amy has relaxed a bit since the first night. She seems to be going well, and she was very happy with herself as last night they covered year 8 maths which made her feel clever!
I have found your entire service from the first contact professional and friendly and will recommend both your organisation and Andrew to anyone who requires a maths tutor. . As I said earlier, I found Andrew both diligant and effective in the few sessions we were able to fit in. Jesse's main comment was that 'He makes everything so easy to understand' which is really what tutoring is about.
