I think the most important things a tutor can do are explain concepts clearly, create a supportive learning environment, and help the student become more independent over time. I think my strengths as a tutor are patience, clear communication, and the ability to adjust my teaching style to suit different students. I try to make difficult ideas…

Things that are most important a tutor can do for a student is being reliable and patient with students. Whenever a student doesn't understand something and they ask you it is important to not demean them as that will make them think negatively of themselves and become afraid to ask questions in the future. It is good to have an open mind when it…

The most important thing any tutor or teacher can do is learn about different learning styles. Not everyone can fully understand a topic by reading about it in a book, and some people get overwhelmed and shut down when they're thrown in the deep end. it is ver important to repeat the context in new ways which are unclear until its understandable for the student and mostly a tutor should be able to share there knowledge in such a maaner that the student would never forget the lesson learned in a particular day. Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

One important thing a tutor can do is clearly understand what a student wants with their tutor. For example, if a student already know concepts really well, a tutor should be able to identify this and spend more time on areas where a student may struggle. Furthermore, it is important to consider the student first and foremost. A tutor should be…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help students understand the "why" behind the concepts instead of simply memorising formulas. A tutor should also build a student's confidence by creating a supportive environment where they're comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Finally, I believe a good tutor should adapt to each…

A tutor can almost shape a student’s future. There can be concepts that a student may be shy to ask their teacher, but I want to be the tutor for them that they can transparently ask their tiniest doubts and absorb the knowledge in the best way possible. This approach encourages critical thinking and enables students to apply their knowledge to more complex problems. Additionally, creating a positive, supportive environment that is tailored to the student's needs…

Consider the student's strong side and encourage it but not at the expense of the weak side. And accept that how long it take for one to learn is not the factor as long as they learn. Patience is something i always try to exercise while teaching as everyone has their own pace and strengths and weaknesses. I believe an keen sense of observation…

Inside PeakhurstTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Raeed worked on understanding negative numbers and using number lines for addition and subtraction.

Year 9 student Mia focused on applying the cosine and sine rules in trigonometry, along with targeted help for an upcoming assignment.

For Year 10, Ethan explored exponential and logarithmic functions as well as analysing features of parabolas, using graphing to support his understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often left math working scattered across the page, making it hard to spot and correct calculation slips—"better formatting of math work can also be worked on," a tutor noted after an indices lesson.

For a Year 11 class, time management issues appeared during trigonometry problem sets: slower speed with multistep questions led to unfinished sections.

In Year 3, one student hesitated to attempt subtraction word problems, held back by uncertainty about which information was needed from the text; this avoidance meant guessing replaced careful strategy.

In each case, these habits delayed progress and sapped confidence in later tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Peakhurst recently saw a Year 11 student move from hesitating over algebraic expansion to working through complex equations independently by the end of the lesson, after initially struggling with similar problems.

In another high school session, a student who previously kept quiet began openly asking for explanations and now even requests specific topics to revisit, jotting down examples on her own initiative.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student started using the column method for addition—where before he forgot to carry numbers—and successfully completed sums with larger numbers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Penshurst Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Peakhurst Public School.
