Inside Pelican WatersTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Summer focused on addition and subtraction using number lines, as well as telling time with analogue clocks.

Year 8 student Rebecca worked through homework questions involving simplifying algebraic terms and calculating rates.

In Year 11, Joshua tackled differentiation, explored tangents to polynomial equations, and practiced sketching cubic functions while reviewing a PSMT task.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Engineering, a student was encouraged to "actively ask and bombard his teachers with questions," but hesitated to clarify assignment expectations or seek feedback. This limited his ability to tailor projects and confidently approach QCAA internals.

In senior Maths, another Year 11 found themselves over-reliant on school resources instead of developing independent problem-solving strategies during data tests.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student's subject notes were inconsistent—one tutor noted "needs to improve on note taking (other subjects notes are good, Maths needs improvement)"—which made revision for formula recall more difficult.

Missed homework in Year 4 also slowed progress with multiplication fluency.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Pelican Waters noticed a Year 11 student who once hesitated to ask questions is now confidently seeking clarification during lessons and even requested extra practice on trigonometric equations—something he'd previously avoided.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student who struggled with rearranging equations last term has begun using the 'Talking Aloud' technique; she now voices each step out loud instead of guessing quietly, leading her to solve linear problems with much less prompting.

In Year 4, one learner who used to lose focus midway through tasks completed his homework independently and read his assignment introduction aloud without distraction.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caloundra Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caloundra City Private School.
