A tutor can intiate the interest in studies in the student and get him/her out of the virtual box of fear that a certain subject is difficult to master. My strength is the vast experience I have as a tutor since last eight years. Also the fact that I have completed higher degrees and this has enabled me to understand various concepts better which…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I think this confidence is important in not just getting high marks in quizzes and tests, but I believe that being confident will help them long-term in solving problems not just in school, even though…

I feel that understanding the student's moods and learning styles is very important for a tutor to teach effectively. A tutor should be able to provide confidence to the learner and be flexible in personalizing the support that they offer to the students/learners. I am resilient and adaptable. I focus more on the critical thinking and provide the…

i believe a tutor has to have a solid understanding of all content to provide the best support to a student, has to be patient, must know a range of way to approach a question, and must be readily available to answer questions through online or in person, and a tutor should be friendly and willing to have fun with the lesson so as it doesn't…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build confidence, foster understanding, and encourage independence. I think being more practical, by being more open. By explaining problems with examples of real life, with things they already know and have seen. I think helping them with the home work related problems and also giving them a problem or two to solve from the teaching of the day. Simple things like repetitive recalling and revising can also do…

I believe a tutor should adapt to the student's learning style. Beyond that, I also consider building a strong bond with the student, creating a supportive and comfortable environment, setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and instilling a sense of confidence and self-efficacy to be equally important. Ultimately, the goal is to…

I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. In my view, the most important things a tutor can do is to build a positive relationship with a student which is the key to become an effective teacher. I think the most important thing is helping build their confidence, not just their knowledge. Inside PemulwuyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aryan worked on addition using number lines and practised multiplication questions to build fluency.

In Year 10, Patrick focused on discrete probability concepts from his yearly exam, including expected value and variance, and also reviewed applications of trigonometry in two dimensions such as angles of elevation and depression.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ali completed HSC-level revision under timed conditions with an emphasis on differentiation techniques and integrating exponential functions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student hesitated to show working for double-digit multiplication and needed reminders to recall each step without relying on previous solutions.

"He often began from the right but lost track of the next steps," a tutor noted, which led to confusion midway.

In Year 11 Maths, another student became overly dependent on formula sheets rather than interpreting what a probability or integration question truly required; this habit left her stumped by unfamiliar wording during practice exams.

When faced with multi-step algebra in Year 9, skipping written working hid key errors—making it hard to spot where she went wrong.

Recent Achievements

A Pemulwuy tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student coming to each session with specific questions prepared, a big shift from last term when he'd wait passively for guidance—he even completed two years' worth of HSC papers independently and pinpointed his weak spots himself.

In Year 10, another student who previously hesitated to speak up now regularly asks for clarification as soon as something doesn't make sense, sometimes even requesting alternative solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school started drawing dot arrays to tackle multiplication problems—something he avoided before—and now finishes simple times tables with little help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ebenezer Christian College.
