The most important thing that I tutor can do for a student is be understanding. Some times it may be hard for a student and they may think that because they are not the best then they are not good enough. It is the tutor job not only to help the student academically but also mentally. There are many social pressures within a students school life…

I consider the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student to understand the concept themself and thus making them much more self-reliant. The tutor can help the student understand not only the concepts but also why its significant and their practical application so that they have a sense of why they are learning these. I can…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success - the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When a tutor…

A tutor must plan and teach lessons to his student in such a way that things become easier for him. Giving live examples to students makes him things understand better as they can relate to it easily and its a child psychology that he/she learns those things easily to which he/she can relate. For me, my strength is that I can make a student fall…

Tutors can help strengthen subject comprehension, boost confidence, and build important learning skills. A tutor gives students individualized attention that they don't get in a crowded classroom. This helps children who struggle to keep up, as well as those who aren't challenged enough. My communication skills, and understanding for the emotional…

Tutor has to be organised and punctual for each lesson. That is in order for the student to receive the most out of each lesson. Furthermore, as a tutor you need to be enthusiastic and supportive. I believe as a tutor that academic success does result from a place of support so a relationship with the student is key, although professional. Lessons…

Impact The impact that a tutor can have on a student should not be understated. You could be the reason a student develops a greater sense of purpose or self-esteem at school. You could be the one that sets a student straight on the true and good path to success and fulfilment. You could help give a student confidence to pursue their field of…

Listen and teach. I think it is so important for students to be listened to and helped accordingly. They must be given the space to work through problems they are facing themselves so that they can believe in their own abilities and increase their own self-efficacy. It is vital that the student can not only regurgitate an answer or process but…

A tutor should be able to explain and help the student to understand the concept and not just memorize it. Content Covered

Year 7 student Coen worked on calculating the area of composite figures, including sectors of circles and shapes with pieces removed, and practiced deriving and using formulas for circle areas.

In Year 10, Maya focused on matrix operations such as adding, subtracting, and scaling matrices, along with applying these to solve ticket price problems; she also tackled financial calculations involving commissions and profit/loss scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Yuri explored probability using Venn diagrams and two-way tables to express intersection, union, and conditional probabilities (P(A|B)), then applied these concepts to real-world word problems from his textbook.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student hesitated to ask her teacher for clarification outside class, leading to lingering confusion in setting up profit and stock word problems—"she was not shy about asking me, but is reticent with her teacher."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled to organize class notes into clear sections, making it harder to quickly locate formulas during revision.

In Year 7 maths, one student's tendency to solve equations entirely in his head meant crucial steps were missed on paper; errors crept in that could have been caught by writing down the process. This left him reworking problems instead of moving forward.

Recent Achievements

One Perth tutor recently noticed Maya, a Year 11 student, making a significant shift—she now methodically checks her answers and annotates her note paper with new formulas during financial maths problems, rather than rushing through calculations as she did previously.

In Year 9, Samara has started to openly question unclear concepts in lessons about piecewise graphs, moving from silent confusion to asking for clarification until things click.

Meanwhile, Freyr in Year 3 picked up three-digit addition with regrouping much faster than before and now infers answers in reading comprehension by scanning questions first.
