Tutors should check for understanding as they go and constantly build confidence so that the student feels like their abilities are improving. When a student feels confident, wonderful things begin to happen. Their curiosity is ignited, and they are more likely to ask questions in class and read additional texts about things that interest them.…

As each student is unique it is important to assess their level of learning, identify the areas where they are lacking and then provide suitable tutoring. While teaching a tutor must implement a teaching plan which suits the student. A tutor must not only look into academics but also the general wellbeing of the student. My excellent communication…

Important things: 1. To be well prepared for sessions; 2. To strive to develop a connection with the student. Such connection would enable the student to feel comfortable sharing his challenges; 3. Feel enthusiastic about the subject. Such enthusiasm can be contagious which would increase the student’s interest and make him more earnest in…

According to me it's very important to make sure that a student feels comfortable in my surroundings and doesn't hesitate to ask questions and doubts when required. This is why I believe it's important to teach in a friendly environment. I am usually also available to students out of hours to answer their last minute questions before exams, if any…

Provide the student with confidence in their own learning ability. Helping students find learning methods that work for THEM, which they can continue to use in the future is the most important thing, and also the most satisfying thing for me as tutor. From my experience, these are the most crucial things that a tutor can do for a student: - Provide personalized support: A good tutor should be able to recognize the student's potential and tailor their approach to fit the student's needs. - Motivate and encourage: Learning can be challenging and frustrating at times, so a good tutor should…

I believe that building a strong teacher-student relationship is the most important thing. Most students who seek for tutoring are either aiming to break their limits, or catch up with others. Both motivation requires significant support from their peers, thus, as a tutor, building a strong TSR can robustly improve students' learning motivation.…

Critcal thinking and the method of approching to problems are what I think the most important in doing maths. Answers to the problem without critcal thinking is generally useless. The most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and understood, not embarrassed for struggling. A good tutor should be able to explain things clearly, adapt to the student’s pace, and notice where they are actually getting stuck instead of just repeating the same explanation. I also think a tutor should help build…

A tutor should try to think like a student tutor should try to get into the child’s mind, mostly a tutor should try to bend according to the child’s need because if a tutor is just like a machine then they won’t be able to critically analyse where the child is unable to grasp the knowledge so it’s very very important that a tutor should…

very happy with the tutor I have for my daughters. Ezy-math obviously employ top notch tutors. I cannot fault the girl we have, she has a natural ability for teaching and does it in a way that my daughters readily understand. Well worth the money as my daughters marks in both Mathematics and Chemistry have vastly improved.

Inside Princes HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mila focused on adding and subtracting decimals as well as solving fraction problems using number lines.

For Year 9, Liam worked through quadratic equations—factoring, graphing parabolas, and translating their positions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby practised statistics by creating box plots and calculating mean and standard deviation from real data sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student showed reluctance to write out answers for trend analysis in graph questions—"sometimes reluctant in describing the trends (which I'm sure he knows but too tired to write them down)"—leading to incomplete responses.

A Year 11 student struggled with submitting assessments on time, missing deadlines and sometimes not attempting all required tasks.

In a Year 4 session, a child forgot their textbook, which limited progress during tutoring.

Another senior student relied heavily on hints for advanced problems rather than trying multiple strategies first, often pausing whenever a new method was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Princes Hill tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through questions is now carefully writing down every step when solving quadratics, leading to fewer errors and quicker solutions.

In a recent session with a Year 9 student, the tutor saw real improvement as she started tackling worded fraction problems independently—something she hesitated with before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who once waited for prompts has begun asking thoughtful questions about upcoming topics, showing new initiative in her learning. Last week, she asked to try material ahead of her class for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brunswick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Princes Hill Secondary College.
