I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment, tailor instruction to the student's individual needs, and build their confidence. It's crucial to help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as to instill a love for learning. Providing…

A tutor should be empathetic and helpful. A tutor can provide personalized guidance, clarify doubts, and offer additional explanations beyond the classroom. Their strengths should include expertise in the subject, effective communication, adaptability to students' learning styles, patience, and the ability to motivate and build confidence in…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build both understanding and confidence. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, while also providing clear structure and guidance. Equally important is helping students develop strong problem-solving skills rather than just teaching them…

A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

The most important thing i can do as a tutor is make them realise that math is not hard, but pretty easy if done with constant practice. I want them to view maths more like a skill they can master, instead of an obstacle. My strengths as a tutor primarily consists of two things: ability to breakdown high-level problems into "easy to understand"…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and confident. A lot of students actually understand more than they think, but they might be anxious, unsure, or afraid of making mistakes. So I see my role as creating a space where they feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. Another…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them to understand problems and have strong basic knowledge. Therefore, they can do their homework without a tutor or teacher to ask. A tutor should always motivate a student even if he/she is not performing well. A tutor should identify the strength of the student and work accordingly. One of the main roles of a tutor is to support their student's learning and understanding. As a tutor, it is not only important to provide as much assistance and help as possible, but also to encourage them to think independently. By thoroughly explaining the concepts to them in a fun and engaging manner, they will develop a deeper appreciation…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to study and learn properly, as it then gives them the ability to use that skill outside of tutoring sessions and greatly improve their grades as well as their academic confidence. Another thing I believe to be important is making the learning experience as…

Make them feel comfortable with you so they interact with you during the class as high interactive classes makes the subject more interesting and students tend to start liking the subject as well thereby spending more time with the subject. Tutors should personalise their teaching for each of their students. This involves understanding how a student learns best in order to cater to their learning needs and habits. For example, I find that some students prefer particular types of examples over others, and this informs me about how I can best explain new concepts to them. I've tutored…

I think the most important goal as a tutor is to create a positive environment for a student. Firstly, a tutor has to be able to understand the student's needs and then personalise a learning plan/ style that works for the student - one size does not fit all! Secondly, the tutor needs to guide the student not get them to parrot generic question answers. It's about building the students confidence up, through positive encouragement, and…

A believe an effective tutor will support a student in a way that will eventually leave them comfortable, confident and prepared enough to no longer need the help of a tutor. However, I understand that this process may be a matter of weeks for some students and a matter of years for others. I think being a good tutor relies upon a variety of…

very happy with the tutor I have for my daughters. Ezy-math obviously employ top notch tutors. I cannot fault the girl we have, she has a natural ability for teaching and does it in a way that my daughters readily understand. Well worth the money as my daughters marks in both Mathematics and Chemistry have vastly improved.

Inside Princes HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mila focused on adding and subtracting decimals as well as solving fraction problems using number lines.

For Year 9, Liam worked through quadratic equations—factoring, graphing parabolas, and translating their positions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby practised statistics by creating box plots and calculating mean and standard deviation from real data sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student showed reluctance to write out answers for trend analysis in graph questions—"sometimes reluctant in describing the trends (which I'm sure he knows but too tired to write them down)"—leading to incomplete responses.

A Year 11 student struggled with submitting assessments on time, missing deadlines and sometimes not attempting all required tasks.

In a Year 4 session, a child forgot their textbook, which limited progress during tutoring.

Another senior student relied heavily on hints for advanced problems rather than trying multiple strategies first, often pausing whenever a new method was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Princes Hill tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through questions is now carefully writing down every step when solving quadratics, leading to fewer errors and quicker solutions.

In a recent session with a Year 9 student, the tutor saw real improvement as she started tackling worded fraction problems independently—something she hesitated with before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who once waited for prompts has begun asking thoughtful questions about upcoming topics, showing new initiative in her learning. Last week, she asked to try material ahead of her class for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brunswick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Princes Hill Secondary College.
