The most important thing a tutor can do is spark curiosity—once a student is curious, learning becomes easier and more enjoyable. My role is to guide, support, and give them the confidence to keep exploring. My strengths are patience, breaking things into simple steps, and making students feel comfortable asking questions. I also grasp math…

I believe giving encouragements and praises to students is important when it comes to motivating them to finish their work and willingly to learn. Furthermore, being patient and compassionate are also important as a tutor. I am patient when students are struggling to understand their course material. Additionally, I am dedicated to accommodate…

I think a tutor should have at least some level of personal connection with the student. A tutor should always motivate students to try their hardest, and also engage them into the subject as much possible. The ability to understand, to some extent at least whether the student has understood that paricular concept or…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to understand each students unique needs and adapt their teaching style accordingly. This approach makes learning both more fun and effective, and can help boost the students confidence. I'd say my strength lies in communication. I am good at explaining things, but I also pay close attention to…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a comfortable and supportive environment where the student feels confident to ask questions and make mistakes. Learning really happens when students feel safe to try, even if they don’t get it right the first time. A tutor should also explain things in a way that makes sense to…

Make students feel comfortable. As someone who had a lot of trouble finding tutors throughout middle school and high school, teaching in a way the student can enjoy and connect to is really important, and can be the difference between seeing a subject as "the worst" to actually having fun. Do not try to impose the thought that he believes the correct solution and try to explain to the student how to arrive at the reasoning that gives the answer. One of the most crucial roles a tutor can play is to ignite a student\'s passion for learning that transcends the confines of textbooks. It\'s about instilling the ability to think critically and creatively, and to explore new ideas independently. Tutoring is not just about writing formulas on paper and solving equations. Tutoring is about connecting with the student, listening to them and understanding them. Only then a tutor can see what topics the students are struggling with and be able to help them. A tutor can go on and on and on for hours with a lot of knowledge base and high level…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to promote confidence in a student. After a tutoring session, the goal should not be for a student to be able to complete their homework. Personalisation. In a classroom, the teacher's attention is divided and the material needs to be taught in ways that the majority understands. However, each student understands and learns differently so having it taylored to the individual (figuring out what they know, what they don't know and what they misunderstood) builds the foundation of…

Inside RandwickTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ben practised **elapsed time questions** and worked on identifying and drawing 2D and 3D shapes.

Year 7 student William focused on solving **algebraic equations**, including collecting like terms, as well as applying **Pythagoras' theorem** to problem-solving tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student revised surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders, alongside tackling **advanced factorisation using the difference of two squares formula**.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was hesitant to apply structured working in algebra, preferring mental calculation—he was hesitant to do so—which made it harder to spot method errors during factorisation tasks.

In Year 10 biology, another student avoided asking questions when unsure about cell organelles, making it tough to address misunderstandings on the spot.

A younger learner (Year 4) sometimes left homework incomplete, especially with worded problems that introduced new formats.

One secondary student became distracted mid-lesson (she can get easily distracted, taking her away from the work), which slowed progress through problem-solving practice and left some review tasks unfinished by session's end.

Recent Achievements

One Randwick tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when facing tricky probability questions now bringing his own challenging examples to sessions and breaking them down into clear steps without prompting.

Another high schooler, previously unsure about multi-step algebra problems, surprised himself by flying through practice sets and even correcting his own errors with negative numbers before the tutor stepped in.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student who often rushed through work has started pausing to plan out answers, showing real care with working out—he finished last lesson by neatly solving every multiplication question and checking his methods independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marcellin College.
