A tutor can guide a student to succeed. Not only in studies, but life in general. If tutors can make students aware of certain things which changes how they operate and that is the greatest thing a tutor can do. I am very patient and understanding. I try to listen to them and change my strategy. Understanding their needs makes me efficient to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student understand in a easy and comfortable way, even if the tutor has to repeat it so many times for them. Another important thing is that all children should not be left behind, as I tutor, he/she should move together at the pace of students and that no one should be left out.…

Students are often scared of certain subjects and avoid facing their problems. For a tutor to be successful at his/her job, they need to be able to help the child overcome those fears and enjoy the subject they were once afraid of. Tutoring can be very challenging sometimes. However, understanding every child's needs and focusing on helping them…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. In my opinion, the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to acknowledge the students intelligence. Einstein said it best himself "Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." And now we are learning more and more that there are multiple teaching styles…

I think a tutor's main responsibility is to teach students the methods of learning and to enlighten their curiosity to new things rather than spoon feeding them with knowledge besides answering their questions and giving them assignments. Helping a student to learn independently and to seek answers by themselves is far more important than…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. A tutor determines the level of understanding a student develops in their subjects. Tutors also influence the personality of the student by how they motivate and inspire the student by showing their own passion for the subjects. Inside Regents ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tom worked through algebraic techniques such as expanding and simplifying by factorising expressions, along with revision of indices and powers of zero.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia focused on coordinate geometry by finding gradients between points and revising congruency proofs using triangles.

For Year 10, Ethan completed lessons on surds—including rationalising denominators—and practiced applying index laws to simplify complex expressions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 and 4 maths, some students often relied on mental calculations rather than writing out working; as one tutor observed, "he needs to practice doing his working out on paper rather than in his head." This habit made it harder to catch small errors with fractions and perimeter.

By Year 7, a pattern emerged: homework was sometimes incomplete or rushed, limiting feedback opportunities—"I would like to see his homework completed with more effort… there were quite a few errors that could have been due to lack of understanding or rushing."

In senior years (Year 10/11), confidence issues became pronounced during multi-step algebra and trigonometry problems. Students hesitated when unfamiliar questions arose, doubting their abilities even after correct answers. This hesitation led to missed marks under exam pressure, especially when layout was messy or shortcuts were taken in working—forcing time-consuming backtracking mid-test.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Regents Park noticed a Year 10 student who used to rush through algebra now taking extra care with each step—he's started writing out his full working and catching mistakes himself.

Another high schooler recently surprised herself by walking the tutor through a challenging probability problem aloud, a big change from her earlier hesitation to explain her thinking.

In primary, one student who always guessed at perimeter questions was able to calculate the perimeter independently for the first time this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Regents Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Regents Park Public School.
